Why is football so popular?

Football is the ultimate team sport. Unlike basketball and baseball, ect., all players have to come out together and fight together. Its a feeling like no other out there on the field. The only bad about football is most all only get to truly experience it for about 4 years and then its over. Just another part of the life we live. And by the way, football is in no way a war, you go ask a veteran what war is and he can tell you.

Football is the greatest sport on earth by far, not only because of it's shear brutality and roughness... but because of the strategy and smarts that go along with it.  In this great sport you can take out all of your aggression on the other team that you absolutely hate, no matter who they are or who's on the team, you don't have to know 'em to hate 'em!!!

You have just stated what it takes to play defense, not football.

Heart, dedication, soul, spirt, moments in time, all are part of high school football no other sport can make a man out of a boy. No other sport requires the commentment, no other sport can allow a average person to be great for 1 year, 1 season, 1 game or 1 play. Its not just a game it is life.

A big part of the popularity is also the numbers game!

Baseball has 9 players at a time, and they play both offense and defense.

Basketball has 5 players that do it all.

Soccer is much the same, except for that blasted goaly that needs to be removed from the field so that we can see more scoring. (Americans love scoring)

Hockey (See soccer)

Tennis, Bowling, Wrestling and Golf are all individual sports, even though you are a member of a team.

Football has an offensive team of 11, a defensive team of 11, a kickoff team of 11, a kickoff receiving team of 11, a punting team of 11, a punt receiving team of 11, a field goal/extra point team of 11, and a field goal/extra point defense team of 11. Anybody that says that adds up to 22 had better redo the math.

Therefore there are more former players from football than any other sport. There are also more parents, siblings, girlfriends, and other relatives that get to see their pride and joy in action.

It's a history of being somehow associated with the game, and it lasts a lifetime.

I'm 56 years old now, and I still get an adrenaline rush on Friday nights!

No sport will ever overtake football in this country. It's in our blood.
