Alright, I would first like to clarify that this is the Tennessee Secondary School Athletics Association (TSSAA). My qusetion: How does SBEC, located in Southhaven, Mississippi, gain the ability to be enlisted in the TSSAA roster? They should be in the Mississippi atletic association should they not?

WOW! I never knew that about SBEC. I know that they won the DII-A state title two years ago.

SBEC was once in TSSAA and dropped out. The school was located in Tennessee right on the Mississippi line. They owned adjacent property across the state line and moved their campus there and asked for re-admission to TSSAA which was granted. I don't know the full details, but this is a unique case.

It is not uncommon for schools in different states to belong to another state association. As in SBEC's case, all their opponents are geographically located in Tennessee.

There is a school (can't remember the name) that is in the Arizona Association that is hard on the California state line. This school's natural opponents are in Arizona. A few years back they won the Arizona state football championship. Upon entering their town there is a sign that says "Welcome to _____, Ca, home of the 19xx Arizona high school football championship."

Seems like Fayette Academy use to play in a Mississippi association if my memory is correct.

Fayette Academy competed in the MPSA (Mississippi Private School Association) for a number of years. Old Hickory Academy (USJ's previous name) also competed in the MPSA for a few years, as well as Rosemark Academy, Tennessee Academy (now closed) in Brownsville, SBEC (when it was located in Tennessee), and several other Memphis privates.

Despite being located in Mississippi (just across the state line), I believe that a majority of SBEC's students live in Tennessee.

Of course when Memphis hosted the Spring Fling, there was an ongoing argument about our state's softball tournament being held in Mississippi.

    • Yeah, but if he goes to Science Hill they are guaranteed at least a win over Kingsport and that's basically the NET Superbowl
    • I expect Sevier County might be pretty good, perhaps Mo West as well.     But I don't see either of them getting out of round 2.          The rest of the region gets smoked in round 1.            Except for those once-in-a-blue-moon anomaly years the NET big schools are pretty much the same every season.
    • Wanted to see if all of you would lift up Kyle James family in prayer. Kyle was one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of Soddy Daisy and as some of you know he lost his house a few weeks ago and now his family and friends mourns his passing. Not sure if any of you were around in early 2000’s when Kyle was wrestling at Soddy, but he was a 3 time state champ and a Fargo AA along with going to Colorado to train to make the Olympic team. That goal was never reached due to medical issues, but he was an amazing wrestler and his family is as good as gold. If you were around at that time and have any pictures of Kyle, please go onto Alexy Winesburgh FB page and post. Thanks, Doug Benton
    • My opinion the 8 teams will be-  Greenback, Wartburg, Gordonsville, Jo Byrns, Eagleville, Bruceton, Dresden, and South Fulton. Gordonsviile is probably the favorite but I wont say it will be an easy road. With the right draw any of the 8 could win it.
    • I understand Gibson Co. will be announced tomorrow with a familiar name. Not sure about So. Gibson.
