In Memory Of Wesley Tucker

I'm posting this on the 1A Football Message Board because it will provide a good place for all of his friends to post memories of him to be read by all. It is probably more appropriate for the OPEN MESSAGE BOARD but I think everyone can and should read it here.

One of my former student-athletes was killed while serving his country in Iraq this past week. SGT. Wesley Tucker was just two weeks away from coming back to Tennessee when he was killed by an IED while driving his Hummvee. I have so many fond memories of coaching Wes in baseball and he was in two of my classes. He was a close friend of my youngest son and I knew his family. I know he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He loved to hunt and fish more than any boy I knew and he never had a harsh thing to say about anyone. He served his country with pride and gave the ultimate sacrifice for his nation.

Wesley... wherever you are, somewhere up there looking down on us all, I am very proud to have served as your coach and I know you gave the last full measure in the service of your country!

I am so very proud of my son and all of my former players who have served. I have had several former students and players become casualties of war since 9-1-1 and I am so deeply moved by all of these brave men and women who put on the uniform and serve their country. Hopefully with the constitutional elections this week in Iraq, this will truly be the 4th quarter of this conflict and soon they will all be able to go to the locker room. My prayer is with all those brave boys who left the gridiron, gym, or baseball diamond to put on the BDU's. You are all heroes in my book and you all deserve every accolade that one can be given.

My prayers to the family of Wesley Tucker. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It is so easy to forget about the soilders that are over there protecting the freedom that we take for granted everyday. My prayers are with all of the men and women serving our country. YOU MAKE US PROUD!!!
