Did you notice the lack of coverage of last nights games in the sentinel this morning. The front page had a picture of fat Phil and an article about him not getting a raise. Matter in fact with the exception of the article about the mens basketball in the bottom left corner and the article about U.T. signee Cait McMahan in the bottom right it was alll U.T. football. THIS IS BASKETBALL SEASON!!!!!

Anyway the local high school coverages was about one third of the back page with no pictures. The box scores were incomplete. Matter in fact the main article about the Central West game didn't have a box score.

ANOTHER SORRY EFFORT OF COVERING HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL!

If you agree let your voices be heard.

bigcatt:

I sent this email to Adams and Edwards.

Guys:

I love the Sentinel, but I am consistently disappointed in the level of reporting of high school basketball. I invite you to compare the way you guys cover high school basketball with the Times Free Press in Chattanooga. There is no comparison. I realize that the football playoffs are still going on, but I guarantee that at this point more fans and readers are interested in basketball. You guys have papers to sell in places besides Oak Ridge and Blount County. During the season, you guys should have district standings printed at least two or three times a week. High School bball should have its own page every day. Basketball in East Tennessee is getting better and better. While Prepxtra is certainly better than what was there 10 years ago when I was in school, you guys need to do a better and more in-depth job covering it.

Do you think Basketball will get any coverage in the prep x tra on Friday. what kind of coverage do you think Friday nights games will get in Sat. Sports Section. No U.T. football. I hope they don't get someone new to cut the grass on the football field that would get headlines. The powers to be at the Sentinel tell me advertising won't support High School Basketball. Say this is a football town. Maybe if the media would start covering basketballl the way they cover football this might be a basketball town as well.

Last year I offered to help PrepXtra by entering schedules, rosters, stats and any other information that I could for District 2AA, much like we do here at CoachT.

I was told that they weren't interested in covering the complete district, although they distribute papers to all of the areas included.

If you don't cover a complete district, how reliable are your stats?

I was also told that it was basically a one man show, and that he was just too overwhelmed to receive the kind of help I was offering. Figure that one out!

I know that one man can't be at every game every night, and I also know that head coaches have other things on their minds than answering long questionaires.

How many other broadcasters, free lance sportswriters, parents, and fans would be willing to supply accurate information to PrepXtra if they allowed us to network with them?

They treat basketball in Knoxville like a joke. Other areas have really nice write ups on the local teams, Knoxville writes a blurb. Why do they charge the coaches in the KIL money for a one page write up. I agree, football gets way too much publicity.

I agree they have grossly underestimated the popularity of basketball, soccer, and baseball. Hopefully Coach Pearl will change all that real soon. He is the "real deal" and long overdue. Let's hope we can keep him for a LONG TIME.

Agree Baseball, soccer, etc... get very little coverage. Todays paper is know better incomplete boxscores, one small game article on the Catholic CAK game. Football is covered extensively. After this week football will be over what will be there excuse not to cover Basketball.

Change will be inacted once the sentinel gets the message from their readers. E-mail Drew Edwards John Adams.

East Tennessee basketball fans there is hope on the horizon. Tennessee Prep Sports and Tennessee Prep Hoops have joined forces and will launch "High School Hoops", a preview magazine that covers a great deal of the East Tennessee landscape. The magazine will be available to all for purchase at your local Pilot Foodmarts starting the week of December 12th. Hope you enjoy.

Another poor effort by the Sentinel in their coverage of last nights basketball games. Hey football is over. How about taking all of the football pictures off of the Prep x-tra web page.

Come on Drew Edwards get creative and find a way to give basketball the coverage it deserves. Quit making excuses. You sure find a way to cover all of those football games on Friday night. Utilize your resources.

Coaches give the Sentinel accurate information they can use. Don't be one of those coaches who fail to report their stats each week.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
