Get your head out of the sand. "UT knoxville is the only team in the top 10 right now that will be offering girls from tennessee any scholarships????????????" Your kidding right? Letters are NOT an indication of active recruitment, I agree, having the head DI coach call a players travel coach to ask for them to get the girl to make a phone call to them are, as are invitations to basketball/ football games followed by private escorted tours of the college campus are , as well as many other things. Trust me, there are some Tennessee girls getting this consistant attention right now from the above coaches. They are because they have shown success at the gold level and / or at ASA 16U nationals. Does this type of attention make sure the kid gets money for college at a top DI school ? NO, but my point was these types of players , with top twenty aspirations need to play GOLD to get these types of scholarships.

my head is not in the sand...i just know from watching girls softball for at least 20 years and see who get offered scholarships. Look at the top 10 schools now, and look at their rosters...I bet you wont find a single girl from tennessee on any of the rosters except for UT...and they have several because its in the coaches contract that he sign tennessee girls... I know many girls that got "unoffical" visits to schools, and many telephone calls, but never an offer....so maybe you should look at reality yourself...and dont give alot of girls a false hope of going to a big school when they probably need to look what best for them at a small school.

I believe we have gotten off the subject of the thread. "BEST SHORT-STOPS" I think that Brittany Taylor from Unaka High School is the best Short-stop that I have seen in a long time. It is nothing for her to get down and dirty to make the play. She covers a lot of property also. Derek Jeter has nothing on her. She has no fear when going for the ball. Same thing with her offence. The girl is just down right a ball player.

Tennessee girls have as much talent and skill as all the other girls that sign to D_I schools. There only problem is that they DO NOT PLAY ball at the GOLD level to be seen by the top coaches. They are not informed about recruiting. The ones that send out letters to inform coaches where they are playing , play at TOP level tournaments ARE getting the bucks from top schools. Look at Beasley's Nighthawk team, look at Rothamel's and Edwards Nighthawk team, look at what offers the Xtreme Edge girls are starting to get. Now that these girls are playing at the 16uA ASA National and gold level they are getting offers. Two girls, one short stop from FRA and one from Brentwood, got scholarships from TOP Ivy league schools, Yale and Brown , from playing GOLD ball!! ( No they are not in the top 20, but WOW they are a fantastic school) They got in to these schools, got academic scholarship aid, without fantastic ACT scores because they played gold ball. In fact there is a young shortstop out of Tennessee that has been offered by UCLA, and Tennessee, and Alabama and there is a very young pitcher out there with similar attention and offers.

Tennessee girls dont have to settle for small schools , they just need to do what it takes to get noticed, PLAY GOLD.

your so full of it..there has never been a girl from tennessee to ever be offered a scholarship to UCLA, and probably will never be one. There has only been one girl from tennessee to ever play for ucla, and she had to walk on after transferring from another school. I never said the girls from tennessee werent capable of playing for a top 10 team, I just said they werent going to be offered scholarships. the girl from brentwood that is going to brown was telling everyone earlier that she probably was going to LSU...guess what, the offer never came...not that there is anything wrong with brown...she is better off going there..great school..and the girl from FRA doesnt have the ability to play at a top 10 program

Bleacherbum, your the one that is full of it. Colby Wherry has been offered a scholarship to UCLA, their head coach and asst. coach talked to her travel coach for the TN Xplosion (Crook) at the 16U ASA Nationals last year and were so impressed that their asst. coach flew down and watched her play in a exposure tournament (that only had 8 teams) in Bowling Green, also UT came to the same tournament, so if your not sure what you are talking about, don't make a comment. I know this to be 100% true!!

i'm not going to buy that...I know how UCLA operates, they dont offer anyone a scholarship in their junior year...colby is probably the best shortstop in tennessee, but she wont be offered a scholarship to ucla..I can see her going to Tennessee, would be a great fit for her....sorry that she tore her knee up playing basketball...has ucla been wanting to talk to her since that happened?..as I said before, recruiting letters, and even phone calls dont make a guaranteed scholarship offer...she may be on their radar screen, just like about 200 other girls, but only about 3-4 will be offered.

You know , I know that what "Best " says is true, but we really need to leave any and all young ladies names out of it, I know more " scholarship " names and schools may pop up but really the recruiting process needs to be more private. Opening ones mouth could hurt a couple of really talented young ladies. So mum is the word. Cheri Kempf , at Club K says it is never a good idea to be vocal during the process.

Bleacherbum, I think you will eat your words this fall and next year when verbals and signings come around. Several girls are doing what it takes ; they are playing at the top level with success. Young ladies that do that will get scholarships from top 25 schools.

Oh, and getting hurt doesnt mean you are forever doomed.

not a pessimist at all...but I have been thru the recuiting wars as a parent and a coach..so I know what the coaches do....they give girls plenty of hope, then dash them when it comes time to sign. and parents feed off the possiblility that their little "susie" is going to play for a top 10 team, when in reality, it may never come about. they need to realize this at an early stage, so they dont eliminate some good schools hoping to get the scholarship offer that never comes

If you would read my previous posts, I never said that they wouldnt sign with top 25 teams. I just said that they wouldnt sign with top 10 teams, except for maybe UT...the left coast teams dont recruit this far south, especially UCLA

and no, injuries do not doom a girl forever, but it will give a coach something to look at in the future when its time to offer scholarships. I have dealt with coaches that forbid a kid to play any other sports in high school if they want to sign with them, and if they go ahead and play and get hurt, the scholarship wont be offered.

BleacherBum - How do you know how UCLA operates, obviously your daughter wasn't recruited by UCLA. I just love it when a former rec coach or whatever you coached think they know it all. As I said before, they came to Bowling Green just to watch her play and they have offered her a scholarship and I'll say it again, I know this to be 100% true. Don't comment on something that you know nothing about!!
