why gp & seymour dont play

Look back in the Mountain Press history. I know it's difficult to believe that GP wouldn't schedule them, but that is what happened. I'm not trying to blast GP. I was just telling the truth. And as far as JV or Freshmen, that is not even close to the same. If you're going to compare JV with Varsity, then GP should play PF because that's all they have to be proud about.

The June 26, 2005 issue of the Mountain Press discusses GP's schedule for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. In the article by Jim Davis, Coach Hammands' cited the size difference in GP and Seymour as the reason Seymour was left of the schedule ( GP's enrollement = 588, SHS's enrollement = 1079). I believe if Coach Hammonds thought his team could not compete, he would turn in his resignation tomorrow. Maybe you need to check your facts.

Maybe you should attempt(that means try) to use common sense. Why would GP drop them if Hammonds thought they could compete? That makes no sense. The reason you do not play someone is because you have NO chance at winning. Great research on the enrollment, although that was not the article I was talking about. :thumb:

You keep talking facts and articles. Prove it. Give the date of the article. Give credit to the writer.

I heard that he said that if we didn't he would. It was like so totally obvious that GP and PF were totally like arguing and like it was all his fault because like it just was. and PF was like whatever, and then GP was like whatever, so they were both just like whatever. So i think GP and PF should just like totally do whatever and just you know be like whatever.

Mr. Serious has obviously had a little too much to drink. The article was one of those side briefs that do not tell the writer. I have looked on the web site but cannot find it. I'm just going off of memory, though. I'm not trying to bash GP. I hope they do well every year. I just thought I remembered how that article went.

Great reply.

I think you summed up this thread, like completely, dude...... or dudette, as the case may be. Me-thinks that people squabble over, like entirely random things, and if they would just try to get along, then, like, they could just be, like, whatever..........., you know?

Now, isnt that better.

How does the fact that Coach Hammonds didn't want to play them because of their size tell you anything different than he thought GP couldn't compete. GP has never stepped up and played any competition. Why dont they play Sevier Co. One reason they cant compete. Benny is not stupid, he knows how to shedule wins. Name the last team to beat GP in both games of a two year contract that GP put back on their shedule. I am sure your only response is going to be bashing PF, and thats fine. Just take a minute and try to look through something besides your "athletic gold" glasses and realize that Coach Hammonds was just trying to save face by not losing to Seymour every year from here on out. By the way, what was the score of the last gp/seymour game.

I'd like to know which issue that was because I don't believe Coach Hammands would say that. If he believed that he would not have scheduled a preseason scrimmage with Sullivan South or a Freshman/JV game with Seymour.

Please tell me you are not trying to use a scrimmage and a freshman game as stepping up and playing quality opponents! Thats good!

pffan you are dogging your team. You were beat as bad as any of GP's "non quality" opponents, and they showed mercy on you ... so where does that put PF? A small step above west greene (Who you make fun of and they gave GP a better game)

Pretty easy to see we were not a quality win this year. I wish that wasn't the case, but it was. We will get better and I hope that when we do we play quality competition to prepare for the playoffs. I never made fun of West Greene, but I think even they would admit they are not a team that prepared you to win a playoff game. I guess I just don't understand how 10-0 and out in first round is considered a great year. Sure it was a good year, but if you are truly a state powerhouse, then shouldn't you be competing for state championships every once in a while or at least getting deep in the playoffs?

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
