On Friday, Coach Glenn Fisher had emptied his bench well before halftime against the same Hampton team that had defeated Happy Valley in an overtime thriller less than twenty-four hours previous. Matchups can be a not-so-funny thing, especially if you're playing two, five-seven post players against 6'1" Alisha Mainer and 6'2" Jennifer Edwards. Unicoi's depth - eight juniors, including starters, Payge Barnett and Mainer - is impressive.

Elizabethton won one, and lost a couple down at the beach, but those losses were to top flight teams. After winning the Volunteer Classic in Church Hill this week, Elizabethton will prepare for what will hopefully be another Classic with Unicoi County, a week from Friday.

Cloudland looked tough against Johnson County. Depth is a strength for our top three, to include the Lady Highlanders. McKinney, Miller, Wilson, Buchanan and Pritchard are all productive off the bench. It's the High Country Prep Classic at Lees McRae this week. And then, South Greene travels to Roan Mountain the following Tuesday, the Second of January.

Unaka has fought its way from the bottom with great defense and more disclipined play. Coach Chambers schemed the Lady Warriors brilliantly in the 32 - 17 win at Unaka last Monday. After this week's tournament in Harriman, the Lady Rangers play the Lady Bulldogs at home on the second day of 2007.

Happy Valley lost the fore-mentioned battle with Hampton Thursday. And that might be part of the reason for the blowout loss, by Hampton, to Unicoi County on Friday. Summer Ward is emerging as yet another of the Seven's Sensational Sophomore class. She went left; she went right and down the middle to put points on Hampton.

Johnson County is such a young team, with a second-year coach; but it's evident that Stacey Street is working hard, and so are her players. They'll shoot better with time; and the drive and intensity is in place to build a very competitive team.

CycloneFan, Gaby said to wish Marti and Victoria a very Merry Christmas!

Unicoi and EHS will settle the mid-season issue in 10 days. Happy Valley seems to be fading fast while the Rangers are coming on. Cloudland will get a chance in the High Country to show if they have last years championship form. EHS could win the Volunteer Classic, but so could Morristown East or Daniel Boone or South.

Where is Unicoi playing this week?

Barring a letdown or an upset, South will probably be in the championship game, since Boone, Mo East, and Elizabethton, are all in the same half of the bracket. But it is double elimination, so who knows?

I agree with Cyclone fans rankings. Have a Happy New Year everybody! Whoo!! :o

You're taking all the fun outta this, KING. Fan admittedly sees things through orange colored glasses; same for coachh17. But I'm very disappointed in the New You.

All jokes aside, I fully expect the Lady Cyclones to win the tournament at Volunteer. I still think that, based primarily on their depth at post, they're the most talented of our Seven teams. Unicoi County has four, six-footers, but the Elizabethton has the "3-Ms" (Like that one, Fan? :o). Victoria seems to be running close to full speed, which bodes well.

Cyclone Voodoo? That's a good thing, right?

KR, Just a little poke in the ribs ^_^ Hope you had a great Christmas and, of course, a Happy New Year! ^_^

As for the King, he is a wise man. AND, quite a new man. Is this really you King? or is someone posting under your name of old? Your new found wisdom is quite a turnaround. Whooooooooooo........
