6 Meigs Co. 3-5

8 Sweetwater 3-7

There are lots of games to be played but how do you think this district will shake out? This Friday Tyner plays Brainerd which is a huge game for the battle for the top seed. I hear McMinn is definitely playing better and Tellico and Polk are both tough places to play (Tellico beat Boyd at home and Polk beat Brainerd at home). What do you think about the remainder of the season in this district?

I'm just ready for the Meigs Polk game, gotta feelin theres gonna be some fireworks on the floor and in the stands. Go meigs!!!! Maybe phillips will hit another half court shot.

It certainly is a tough district. However it shakes out, the district tournament will be fun. Should be quality basketball played throughout. The region promises to be exciting with teams like Howard, Hixson, East Ridge, and Notre Dame the favorites to move on to the region.

 

After tonight's game with Brainerd and Tyner, there could be a three way tie for the top spot with a Tyner win or a clear cut one through 4 with ALOT of basketball to be played.

 

Don't count out teams like Tellico, Meigs, and Polk

I don't know how this district will shake out but I know it looks like a good district. I know that Brainerd and Tyner are for real. Central is a little down but still a quality team worthy of making noise. My question concerns Boyd. Are they for real? 8 - 2 in the district after going like 6 - 10 last year?

Looking at the schedules, it seems that those four also still play one another with the exception of Tyner who swept Central.

Boyd is a very experienced team. Their four best players are all seniors and I think they have a total of 6 or 7 seniors on the team. They have won at Tyner and at home against McMinn Central and had a 3rd quarter lead at Brainerd slip away. There is still a ton of ball to be played. Boyd still has to play every district team one more time with the exception of Seqoyah (who they swept). So a lot can happen but to answer your question I think Boyd is for real.

Brainerd beat Tyner in Overtime. Brainerd had a 15 point lead in the first half but then played poorly and Tyner got hot. Good game. Brainerd now 9 -1, Boyd 8 - 2, Tyner 8 - 3. Top two teams in regular season automatically advance to the district semis in this 9 team district and automatically qualify for the region tournament. Next big game is Tuesday with Tyner going to Boyd.

According to the Monroe County Advocate the current district standings are as follows: Brainerd 9-1, Tyner 9-2, Boyd- Buchanan 8-3, McMinn Central 6-4, Meigs County 4-6, Sweetwater 4-7, Tellico 4-7, Polk County 3-8, Sequoyah 1-10.

 

If these are wrong, feel free to correct. They have tried to keep up through the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Coach T and Chatt. Times Free Press.

 

Sweetwater has Tyner, Boyd, Brainerd, McMinn Central, and Meigs left.

Tellico has Brainerd, Sequoyah, Polk, Meigs, and Tyner left.

Sequoyah has Tellico, Tyner, Central, Brainerd, and Polk left.

 

Sweetwater and Tellico has dangerous teams. What I mean by that is, they can play with almost everybody, with the exception of Brainerd and Central, depending on what night they are having. Sequoyah is down this year, a lot of young talent. Looking to build toward future. Still at least a year away from being competitive in district again.

Tyner has to stay under control, if Boyd gets hot from outside, it could be lights out. Both teams run pretty good, should be interesting.
