  1. Steve is the Def. Coord. and doing an incredible job. One of the best, if not the best, bbs defenses ever. He is still the assistant principle.
  2. I think Boyd wins but much much closer than that 42 to something prediction. I say by 7 - 10. But, I think it will be a good one to watch. Congrats to both teams and I hope this thread can stay classy, but then again us "private school folks" do get ahead of ourselves alot and need to relax. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  3. Westmoreland wasn't very good tonight. BBS played well but Westmoreland looked slow. Their Wing - T is very predictable and very little misdirection. BBS was the faster team. The Baker kid is pretty good but Seth Emery is a much better ball player in my opinion. Hope Westmoreland fans arrive home safely. they have to be disappointed because after all the talk I saw here this week, they laid an egg!
  4. I hope the BBS - Marion thread stays classy all week because it's two great programs who deserve to be where they are!
  5. Congratulations Warriors. Coach Boeck and team has done a great job. Got whipped by SP. Lost to BBS by 1 and then got on a roll. No one expected this, that is what's great about high school athletics. Congratulations. Marion at BBS will be a lot of fun.
  6. Is 18 - 13 a final? I am a Boyd fan, but Coach Boeck has to be state coach of the year. What a great job!
  7. Here is your explanation. 2A is different because of the wild cards. The state is broken into 8 team quadrants and each quadrant is seeded 1 to 8. BBS is #1 in that quadrant. Smith #2, Marion #3. You play at the higher seeded team. Therefore, BBS is hosting next week regardless. Should BBS lose, Marion or Smith goes to Alcoa. Should BBS win, Alcoa comes to Chattanooga.
  8. Either way Boyd is home next week. But let's not get ahead of ourself. I am waiting for a final. Hope Marion holds on.
  9. No, It is at Boyd. 2A is different. Long explanation. Go to TSSAA.org and look at their updated bracket, it shows Boyd at home.
  10. The official word on Nic Hughes is that he is "questionable."
  11. Just another quick thought ... Gilley, the starting SR tailback, did not play the last 1 and 1/2 quarters. Who is going to tell me that any team can be expected to be as good offensively when two of their main cogs are out? Again, not excuses, just analyzing the facts.
  12. First , Congrats to Marion County on a great effort. You guys gave one of the gutsy performances that will be remembered for a long time. It was a great football game and a joy to attend. You have to feel great about the effort and the improvement you guys made between week 1 and 2. You guys are better than last year and South Pitt will beat many teams worse than they beat you. Second, I love the call Boeck made. I think his logic might have been to go for the win at the time it was available. BBS was the more athletic team. Marion was the underdog and you don't know how OT would play out, so I praise him for the decision! Thirdly, Hughes being out makes a HUGE difference in BBS. He is the passing game for them and most folks in Chattanooga think he could be one of the area's best QB. Andrew Crowe did a great job. What everyone needs to realize is that he took the very first snaps of his high school career. FIRST ONES. If we look at this situation without tempered glasses, we will see how difficult it is for a new QB to adjust and how it hampers the game plan. Ask Fulmer at UT with a new QB. Ask Rodney Allison after Antonio Miller went down in the CARSON NEWMAN GAME. Once he went down, the Mocs became one dimensional, and LOST TO A TEAM FROM THE NAIA! Now, with Crowe practicing all of two days, he can't be expected to do the same things as Hughes does. The game plan had to be run the ball over and over again and Marion knew that and stacked the line of scrimmage. They knew BBS would not throw the ball very effectively once they realized Nic was out. Finally, to say that BBS is not as good as last year is just foolish. How can anyone base that opinion on one game? A game in which their Senior QB was out and a QB with NO experience was in. Anytime an offense is one dimensional makes it easier to defend. Unless the talent discrepancy is huge, which it wasn't in this case, being one dimensional allows the other team to defend and stay in the game. If you watched Boyd in the first 2 games and the jamboree, you know what you saw Friday night was not indicative of their play thus far. Anyway, there are no excuses in this post, just facts. The most important fact is that it was a great high school football game with two teams giving nothing but maximum effort and two fan bases who were into the game the whole night. In my opinion, Friday night was why you play high school athletics. Congrats to both teams!
  13. LEGEND, I typically don't post on coacht too much because i can't stand all the trash talking that goes on. AND, from what I hear, there is only one, maybe two (reaction) living legends, so I would fall way short /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Reaction, I'm with you. It might be fair to say they got a little comfortable in the second quarter. How big was the goal line stand to end the second quarter? CAK punches it in there, it could have been a different game. As for the cramps, I'm not positive but talking to a few who cramped up, they admitted they didn't take the best care of themselves with fluids this week. I think they are well conditioned but if well conditioned athletes don't hydrate properly, they will cramp on hot nights. Hopefully, they learn a lesson from it and it doesn't cost them a game. I think this will be a good bbs team to watch. We have a tough schedule but should help come playoff time.
  14. A little defense for the radio broadcast guys. All they said was that it was a late hit and that the player was lucky he didn't get ejected. They did not say anything about CAK not being classy. They had nothing but praise for the CAK program. It was a great high school football game between two really good teams. Great doesn't mean it was pretty. Both teams made a ton of mistakes. As to reaction ( I think it was him, not sure) being disappointed in what he saw from the Bucs not unleashing Hughes, let me say this. I was on the sideline and talked to Nic a time or two and he couldn't run. He had a hard time dropping back for a while. His cramps hindered him from doing anything but handoff until the last drive. With Nick out for 2 - 3 possessions in the second half, all we could do is run it. You are not going to let a sophomore with no experience throw the football too many times. The one time he did could have been intercepted and then on fourth down deep in CAK territory, he took about a 20 yard sack which gave CAK great field position. He should have thrown it away. My point is that a sophomore, who will be a good player, with no experience can't be asked to run the offense that Boyd wants to run with Nic in the game. I don't think the Boyd offense in the second half is the real offense because they were severely limited. How many series did Nic play in the second half? I think maybe 3 including the final drive which he led them down the field and ran and passed when needed. Anyway, just some random thoughts. I think it was a huge win to start the season and gave the Bucs plenty of things to work on!
  15. ESPN 1370 AM is where the game is broadcast and this year the broadcast will include a sideline reporter.
  16. Payne is done for the season. Tough loss. Heart breaks for him. As to the "idiot" comments, don't judge BBS by the few we have:) This is going to be a great game. Both teams are class acts, and I think CAK fans will enjoy their time at BBS. Be sure to bring an appetite. Great sandwiches available. Good luck to both teams. Go Bucs!
  17. Jake Lockert is a 6'1" post for Boyd Buchanan and he is averaging somewhere around 16 a game. Had 21 tonight in a win over Tyner. Had 21 in a loss Monday at Sweetwater. He is only a sophomore. He really isn't a "big man" but the kid is good. Very Hard working and smart and again, only a 10th grader.
  18. The jamborees make a little money for the region or district that hosts them. This money is typically used to pay for the post season awards and banquets that follow for all district or all region players. I follow Boyd Buc closely and their district jamboree is tomorrow night at Cleveland State. They make enough money to cover the post season banquet and awards. Other than that, it is a waste of time. Boyd plays Tyner tomorrow and neither have their football players. Boyd scrimmaged Basin yesterday and beat them by 30.
  19. Who made the completely ignorant post about basketball? I know that Coach Brown and Coach Mattheis have always gotten along really well and if the schedule would allow it, BBS would play Grace. District 5AA is a NINE team district meaning that EIGHT OF THE TEN HOME AND HOME DATES are already taken. Coach Brown and Coach Eller at Hixson are great friends so they play home and home each year and Gordon Lee has requested to continue the home and home series with Boyd, which Boyd agreed to. So, your implication that BBS is dodging Grace in basketball is absurd and spoken out of ignorance (lack of knowledge). Another thing, why would BBS avoid Grace last year. Boyd won 18 games playing in AA and had their best season in a few years. Lost to Howard by 5 in the region tourney. Howard went on to state so we were all proud of Boyd. Anyway, thought I would help clear that up and give some knowledge about scheduling. With the ten home and homes taken, that leaves two tournaments to play in, thus making Grace and Boyd difficult to schedule. As for the football game, Boyd wins but maybe not as easily as most think. Grace is coming along nicely. As for the facilities, give them time. Grace is a class act and will eventually get there. Boyd's facilities were awful for years so we have no room to talk facilities.
  20. I predict that Brainerd will win tonight in a closer game than their first meeting.
  21. It certainly is a tough district. However it shakes out, the district tournament will be fun. Should be quality basketball played throughout. The region promises to be exciting with teams like Howard, Hixson, East Ridge, and Notre Dame the favorites to move on to the region. After tonight's game with Brainerd and Tyner, there could be a three way tie for the top spot with a Tyner win or a clear cut one through 4 with ALOT of basketball to be played. Don't count out teams like Tellico, Meigs, and Polk
  22. I was wrong about my 16 point prediction and glad of it. I thought MD would be too much. I did get the winner right. I amproud of Liberty. Great showing for a AA team from TN. Good luck rest of the year.
  23. As a coach myself, I would press the daylights out of them if I had the team to do it. I think Liberty can. If they can turn them over, Liberty can win. If they can't, they won't. They can't go zone because the Duke signee is one of the best shooters in the nation. He is the one that makes them go. He is 6'8 and plays guard. Was told today that he is the 2nd best shooter to ever play in this tournament. I think the key is going to be Liberty's ability to turn M.D. over and get easy scores. I would be worried about scoring against M.D. on a consistent basis. The News Press website from Fort Myers will give an update at halftime. I still think M.D. wins. What a victory for Tennessee if LIberty can find a way to do it.
  24. I used to live in Fort Myers and attended the city of palms classic for a few years. There have been great players and teams there at the tournament. I talked to a couple of friends today and they said that everyone is pulling for Liberty. They have become the favorite being from a small Tennessee town compared to L.A. One knowledgable friend said that he thought Liberty would lose because they would be unable to defend these guys. They are the biggest team he has ever seen and he has been watching this tournament for 20 years. He thought LIberty could hurt them with the press and maybe wear the big guys down but he said this bunch from L.A. plays as a team and it will be tough. M.D. 78 Liberty 62 Good LUck to Liberty. We are pulling for you!
  25. Allison led the way with 18. Glisson had 13. Bucs played great in the first half and built a 16 point halftime lead. Chargers played great in the second half, took the lead once. With the game tied, Allison steals the ball in the half court and lays it in at the buzzer. Congrats Bucs.
