Cherokee (6-0) won the "A" Division (the four teams with the best records in round robin/pool play) with a 7-1 victory over runner-up Knox Catholic (5-1) in the championship game.

Not sure who won the "B" and "C" divisions.

Union Co. (2-3) won the "D" Division with a victory over Daniel Boone.

Cherokee's sophomore pitcher, Gilbert (sorry, not sure of her first name!), was the well-deserved MVP of the "A" Division.

QUOTE(rSquared @ Apr 22 2007 - 10:06 PM) 826443064[/snapback]Thanks, statman. Whitney Gilbert is a very good, young pitcher. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

She had a very good tournament.

Picked up 4 wins throwing 24 innings over the course of the tournament. Had 50K's and gave up a total of 4 hits. No-hitter against North Greene and a combined no-hitter with senior Kristen Dyer against Union County.

Would like to see this momentum carry back over into district play over the next couple weeks.

If this is correct, then she must not have given up any hits against any team other than us, statman. ??? My scorekeeper usually does a VERY thorough job and she had us with a total of four hits off Whitney in the championship game---a double off the bat of all-tournament selection Katherine Harper (soph.) in the first inning, a slap single off the bat of leadoff hitter Kelly Conaty in the third, a single from all-tournament selection Ashley Oliver (Sr.) in the fourth, and a triple from Megan Clifton in the fourth which plated Oliver with our only run.

Whitney did strike out a total of 13 in the game.

Bet she has people looking at her already! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

You could be right Rsquared, our "unofficial" book had her giving up 3 hits against you guys and 1 hit against South Greene on Saturday. This particular unofficial book is known for being pretty critical of fielding miscues, though.

Have no idea if she is getting looks though...just hopeful.

How did Hill from JCHS not make all-tournament team in Tiny Day tournament? She pitched 3 complete games and was brought in trailing North Greene 4-2 and proceeded to get the win 8-4. She was the winning pitcher in 4 games with no losses, while the pitchers that faced her and lost all games against her made all tournament, one being MVP of her pool and another having 2 losses still made all-tournament. On the other side of the ball she is all or nothing, drove the insurance runs in against South greene with another one of her monster smashes to the fence, yes to the fence. While all these girls were deserving, How did they come up with that? Another note, championship game was against South Greene. JCHS won controversly on a possible foul/fair ball 2-1.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
