Lipscomb University grad and current assistant track and xc coach jonathan eckberg was the first american to finish and 10th overall in 2:28:51

you have to keep in mind that the course record is a little skewed because it only includes the people running the half marathon. the winner went 2:13 for the whole thing so at least one of his two half marathons had to be much faster than 1:09

well not necessarily because after mile like 8 or 9 the course splits off and the half marathon runners go towards LP Field and the marathon runners go toward Metrocenter area. But I do see what you mean.
