After dominating the district tournament Russ Plummer and his Lady Commando Soccer team have finally seen the light. With this momentum and spirit can Hendersonville be the state competitors they have always been in the past? Please leave your oponion

I believe they will get by Henry Co. If Russ had his druthers, I am willing to bet he would rather see Ravenwood than Franklin, though both are strong teams. If Hendersonville beats either of those teams, getting to state, teams should watch out. Plummer always seems to have his teams ready to play their best soccer in the post-season. Time will tell...

They'll have to learn to find the back of the net more often in order to continue very deep in the tournament. At Beech they dominated play in the first half and had a lot of shots on goal, but still trailed 0-1. They are a quality team with a LOT of speed, and are going to have to take a game, rather than rely on the other team to give it away.

Hendersonville has a great coach and a proud program. They are always in the picture.

Lol. Dominate??? It was 2-0 Beech's favor with 13 minutes to go! A bad call and a very questionable 50/50 (non-shooting) penalty in the box with a minute or less to go led to a pk or Beech would have won the District. First game was a tie in regular season between the two and this one should have been a 2-1 Beech win at a minimum. But, you are right...Russ Plummer knows how to win and has a proven track record and it is really hard to beat them on their home field. Region finals will be interesting but you can never count HHS out. This will be a fun district to watch next couple of years though between these two teams. Beech loses 2 starters and are starting 5 freshman and beat Riverdale and Oakridge while I'm told HHS loses 5 or 6 players.

You have to admit, it seems a little odd to observe the results this year from a team last year that was competitive with the top 2-3 teams in the state in 2006, turn several seniors, and start the season 1-7-6. We will take your word that they dominated the District tournament, but realize all three teams they played in the district had more loses than wins (8-9-3, 7-8-0, 6-7-3). Few of us would doubt that HHS didn't have a team, but it certainly appears there must be something else holding this team back this year as nearly every team turns players.

Best of Luck in the days ahead. Looking forward to seeing you guys.

You're right that Hendersonville did look very good, but had, what, 10 or 15 shots on goal go everywhere but in the goal. Beech had two shots on goal in the first half - one off the upright, one in the net. 1-0. That's Soccer. But, were you even at the game? That "very questionalble 50/50 (non-shooting) penalty in the box" was anything but that.

Beech gave the game away by playing directly to one of Hendersonville's strengths - their speed. Beech kept pushing up all the way to the midline, allowing 50 yards of space in which Hendersonville took advantage with their speed and long pass throughs into the space. Hendersonville's last two goals were both scored as a result of long runs into the space vacated by the Beech players pushing up.

The winning goal - the PK - was a well deserved goal, resulting from a blatant, reckless knockdown tackle in which the defender made absolutely no attempt to play the ball. She simply ran right through the attacker. There's was no 50/50 ball - the attacker had control of the ball in a direct run in on the goal, in the box. The attacker could have made a play for the ball, but chose to play the player instead resulting in a hard knockdown - PK. Good Call

And, yes it was in the 39th minute of the 2nd half, but don't pin that on the referee. The only thing about the play that would have been unfair, would have been NOT to call the PK. The Hendersonville player made a legal run into the box and had a fair opportunity to take a shot to win the game and was fouled to prevent that attempt. She deserved the PK.

I think Hendersonville does have the ability to move deeper into the tournament, but they're going to have to take advantage of those scoring opportunities.
