Coach Quarles and the Mercy Rule

It's a touchy situation. Let's say you play your 1's for the whole first half and the score is 30-0 at halftime. You open the second half with your 2's and score another TD on your first offensive possession. Now the clock is rolling, how much experience will the 2's get before you have to empty the bench? Shouldn't the 2's get more than 1 or 2 series before you have to let everyone in? I mean this is high school football, not rec league. I understand in rec league you have rules to make sure every kid gets to play in every game, but high school sports should teach kids more than blocking and tackling. In real life there aren't rules to ensure that you never get hurt, or that if things aren't going well that someone will step in make it better. I realize that there are some coaches and programs that will run the score up to embarrassing levels, but I think that is rare and most people know who those coaches are. I witnessed Farragut beat Bearden one year back in the late 80's 75-6. I don't think Farragut intentionally scored 75, as there were like 3 int returns for TD's , and 2-3 punt returns for TD's. If I was the Bearden coach I would be more humiliated to see my opponent kneel down, or just run the dive every play.

AMEN.

I`ll say it again...If the TSSAA wants to have a mercy rule then let it be optional. After a team gets down 35 points then let the losing coach decide whether or not he wants the rule implemented.

I`ve seen 3 games this year that involved the mercy rule and the time literally flies by. I can certainly understand a coach wanting to run the clock out, but I`m sure there are some coaches that would prefer to be able to have time to work on things. If the team that is ahead has 2nd and third team in the game then it is a great opportunity for the other teams first string to get some work in without being too overmatched.

    • The amount of people pooing on UH is crazy. They're a noticably better team than last year when they made state and were competitive , AND they run ruled Eagleville a few weeks ago. Now I understand Eagleville was missing a few guys, but they still. They. Run. Ruled. Eagleville. 1st single A team to run rule Eagleville since when? Pre 2017??
    • If that Yellow Paint is all gone I'll flat bet it didn't wash off there. I bet that took some scrubbing to remove that if it is gone. Lacrosse is one of those northern sports all these misplaced Yankee's that are posion to the community brought in by  (Blount Partnership, ( The Devil) with them so somebody allowed them to paint their markings on the field that cost more than the twenty top people on payroll at Maryville make a year. All this to please the 1% Club and the 25 people that would come to see it. All in the name of WOKE!!!!!!
    • They will probably, struggle
    • Dyersburg is going to be good, really good. As mentioned, they have a lot of talent on the way and the trio of Chelby, Joya, and KayKay will only be better with a full season together under their belt. To me, playing in Murfreesboro two consecutive postseasons will only serve to make them more dangerous if/when they stand among the final eight teams this March. Experience, good or bad, always makes you better. And not only do they have experience, they know how to win there. Schedules are coming together for all of the teams and I am excited about what I am seeing on the preliminary drafts on Dyersburg’s schedule. I know I am being a tease, but it’s simply not my place to announce what another school is doing. With that said, I won’t go into specifics. However, I am excited about renewed home and away contracts for the non-district portion of the calendar. I think west Tennessee will have a lot of interest as well.
    • What does everyone have in the final 8? In no particular order. 1. Eagleville 2. Gordonsville 3. Greenback 4. Oakdale 5. South Pitt/ East Robertson-- not sure 6. Richland 7. Halls 8. Union City
