SNR,

Actually I was supporting Krich's thought process and right to his views. I respect his opinion, knowledge, and love of our area basketball.

as for his rankings, I don't agree with them to be honest.

First, thanks for supporting my though process; Lord knows it needs all the help it can get.

And if you don't agree, tell us what you think. Your input can only help the board, and most importantly, it will make me better. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

First off, Unaka couldn't beat The Cyclones if they played 10 times a year. Secondly, The Highlander is my neighbor with two athletic girls who play for Cloudland. Thirdly, I hope we beat the stuffings out of Mitchell because I hate sports in western North Carolina. No one and I mean no one has seen politics until they take a peak at North Carolina athletics. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Krich,

I can't believe you would give away my alter ego, NumberOneRangerLover, to this crowd! I didn't think you'd do that.

Oh well, just because I know where Earl's Grill was, and just because I've lost my car keys in Lick Skillet, and wrecked a motorcycle on Muddy Branch, just because I've shot at the Southern Archery Club, just because I know where Lane Hill Academy once stood, I don't think that was nice of you.

I'll remind you that I bleed Old Gold and Royal Blue. Well, and UT orange of course.

As for my rankings, I've mentioned why I don't do it, I haven't seen everyone play. I don't feel qualified to add much, and I defer to you guys!

1) cloudland - they have the best team right now and was missing a starter in game against unicoi

2) unicoi county - shoulda - coulda. probably should have beat cloudland but didn't, almost lost to happy valley too. then demolished elizabethton by 22 and hampton and unaka by twenty some???

3) elizabethton - common opponent (unicoi) says that happy valley could be in this spot but, have seen both play and think that betsy is better.

4) happy valley - very athletic and that freshman is unreal. don't think they can match up with betsy (too much size)

5) hampton - just feel they are better than unaka. should be a good game though.

6) unaka - just the way the cookie crumbled this time (could easily be higher).

7) johnson county - only team that i havn't seen play. but by looking at scores in paper they don't look to good.

Lick Skillet. Earl's Grill. Muddy Branch. And I think my late mother actually taught at Lane Hill. I'm impressed!

Believe it or not, a couple voters/pollsters literally haven't seen Unaka play in at least five years, so you're at least as qualified as me, or any of us to rank these teams.

slimsdaddy, I think the final in the Unicoi vs Unaka game was 47 - 31, but your point is acknowledged. I agree with you also that Elizabethton has more size and talent than most of the teams, but last week, was very disappointing. No doubt they'll bounce back.

I can't speak for "RangerLover," but I'm leaving for the other "Hill" in a few minutes.

Sportiemom,

Actually I'm throwing everyone a curve tonight. I watched the games at Freedom Hall, but I can tell you that Johnson County ladies beat Hampton ladies by 13! Now I just want to know how the Elizabethton v. Greeneville game went.

If you only knew..................

Happy Valley 49

Unaka 47

In overtime.

A great game at Happy Valley.

Summer Ward, after going scoreless in the first quarter, hit four free-throws in the second, two twos in the third, a two-plus-one in the fourth and five points, to include two free-throws with 1.7 seconds remaining in overtime to break the 47-47 tie.

Unaka's Brittany Scott continues to play big time in big games. She again led all scorers with 21 points.

Hannah Banks scored ten points and made several plays on both ends of the court to lead the Lady Warriors.

Banks and Ward managed to stay in the game while playing with four fouls. Unaka's Kayla Winters and Taylor Byars weren't so lucky. Winters got her fifth at around the two-minute mark as she contested a breakaway by Ward. Byars was whistled for her fifth in a rebounding free-for-all with a little over four-minutes remaining in regulation.

The highly-rated freshmen played brilliantly at times, and like freshmen at others. Happy Valley's Cara Bowling, scored all six of her total points in the first half, including a short banker just before halftime. She didn't score in the second half, but played courageously after being knocked to the floor and helped to the bench.

Unaka's Taylor Byars has been somewhat under the radar, but proved herself to be at least as good as any in this amazing freshman class by scoring nine points on two threes, a nice bank-shot jumper, and one free-throw. Her fifth foul was a very tough blow to the Lady Rangers chances.

Fellow Unaka freshman, Chesnie Cox, stepped up big time with Byars in foul trouble, by scoring six points, hitting a three in the second, another in the third.

Sophomore Danielle Jones was steady as always for Unaka, and another Unaka freshman, Tayler Nidiffer, played well in place of Winters.

Lindsey Toney scored ten points, eight of those in the second half, and a huge three pointer in overtime.

Much more later on this Great Game . . . .

Well, well, well...that does confuse the issue doesn't it ?!?

Congratulations to Johnson County and condolences to Hampton. I think I may have mentioned the Lady Longhorns had improved somewhat this year. And I understand they were short a starter, not sure who.

I'm very surprised they could drop 76 points on someone though. Where the heck did that come from?

As for the HV/Unaka game, Krich can give us the details, sounds like a good one.

And the Lady Cyclones shouldn't feel too bad...Greeneville is one of the best teams in the state.

    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
