Powell at Maryville

I really havent seen Powell play a whole, in matter of fact, not since last season when they clobbered Maryville in the regional finals. They have lost 8 games so I do expect Maryville to win but I think they game should be tough. What do you guys think? Especially those who have seen both teams play this season.

A lot will depend on how Powell shoots the three. If they shoot lights out then watch out, they can play with anyone, they shot really well vs. Oak Ridge and Clinton. If they are on from 3, it has the ability to draw the defense out and Jason Seymore can do a little bit on the inside. However, I would fully expect Maryville to control this game. Powell is the type of team that Douglas can dominate. They are fairly weak on the inside, epecially defensively. Another thing to watch out for is Powell slowing the game down, sometimes they take a full minute or more off the clock in their normal offense. It is very effective in taking an opponent's rythm and crowd out of the game.

Since when does Seymore need to work it inside? That kid can shoot the lights out. If Powell gets hot, they have a strong chance to win this game. If they are anything other than absolulty on fire, I expect Maryville.

I guess Powell didn't shoot it well. Who guarded Seymour for Maryville?

Mostly Aaron Douglas in the first half until the game was decided. I was very surprised that he didn't try to take AD to the rim. I was surprised that none of the players really tried to drive until the game was decided. Powell started 1 for 15 from beyoned the arc and really never got going offensively.

    • Sounds like a great opportunity has opened up for the football team.  With the head coach of the diamond rebels making it official and quitting this week, there should be some room for the gridiron guys to benefit. I assume the administration won’t continue paying six figures to two former coach that quit to continue teaching drivers Ed. Thats pretty good money that could be redirected toward the football program. Also, with the more recent policies of pushing kids to only play one sport, abolishing the baseball program altogether would help on Friday nights in the fall. There is some decent speed on that baseball team that should’ve been playing on Fridays IMO. I’m not sure if anybody would really miss that baseball program anyway with it being across town from the school. The liability of letting players actually use the facilities could also be mitigated with closing the program. That liability seems to be a really big issue for 825. Anyway, it seems like a great opportunity is available.
    • Yeah, I read about their spring blue/gray scrimmage after I typed that.   Sounds like a real mess over there.  I just hate that for 'em.  Haw
    • Maybe OR will be, but Farragut, nah, I don’t think anybody realizes how much of a bad situation that program is in currently. I’m sure they will build out of it, but the next 3 to 4 years are going to be a long climb up.
    • Thats one of the problems of having an 8-team region. A team could make it in any other region, but the numbers work against them in this one.
