Public/Private Split???

I don't understand all the talk about a public/private split. I am not aware of any talk by the legislative council of the tssaa about a split that involves a split of public and private schools. I was for the split of financial aid/non-financial aid schools when it happened but there was never any talk about a public/private split.

Most people don't understand how many different types of private(they now like to be called independent schools) that we have in the state of TN. There are very small independent schools that can hardly make it financially. There are very big and powerful independents that charge a tuition of about 24,000 a year. There are all male and all female independent schools. There are independent schools that board students. Some independent schools like most public schools must do fund raisers to support their athletic teams, some get 25 million dollar donations. Some regions of our state don't even have private schools,

My point is that when we talk about private or independent schools we usually only think about the private schools that we come in contact with in our athletics.

I am not a independent or private school supporter but I do think that they are here to stay. I have no problem participating against any privte school that does not give scholarships. I am very concerned about the fact that when we split into Div.I and Div.II we allowed unlimited financial aid. This will IMO cause more hard feelings between some priviate and public schools. How can we allow unlimited financial aid and have a recruiting rule?

I do know that there is some talk about all of us going back together but I will be very surprised if that happens with all the unlimited financial aid and court cases that the private schools have put the tssaa through. We had problems getting along when there were scholarship limits, how could we survive now?

I agree with what you're saying. I hear some that want to bring DII back with DI ( not many DI fans wanting DII schools back) and I guess that's there right. My question is how will this happen? No one seems to be giving any plans to accomplish a merger between DI & DII. With DII schools giving unlimited financial aid (scholarships), I can't see the DI schools welcoming them back with out some limits (quotas). I don't see the DII schools going back to a quota system on financial aid athletes either. So for those of you who say this must happen or the sky will fall.....tell me how you propose this merger will take place. I think that what we should be doing is make the situation we have now the best we can and and get over this talk of bringing DI & DII back together......but if you feel strong about bringing the split to an end at least tell us how you think this could be accomplished with both the DI & DII schools agreeing.... DON"T HOLD YOUR BREATH.

is a percentage rule on financial aid. In other words, if a school aids (say) 12% of its students as a whole, it may aid up to 12% of each team. This was actually what at least some D2 schools were asking for when instead they got unlimited aid with the split. (I would also allow schools to elect to use the old quotas, with numbers added to account for the addition of bowling, if they prefer that system to the difficulties of tracking percentages.)

silverpie,

I have not heard that idea. I like that one, but the problem is how to classify those aid offering schools. Take a Notre Dame in Chatt. They may offer aid to 5% (totally random number). McCallie in Chatt may offer aid to 25%. Do they get classified as the same? It is a good idea, but would be hard to regulate.

    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
