Seen where the Grizzlies started 2-0 with a big win against Gibbs. Any info on the games?

It was a close for most of the game with Gibbs. Score was 2-2 going into the bottom of the sixth when Grainger plated 7 (a couple of solid hits, 2 errors by Gibbs, and a blown call by the field umpire). The game could of gone either way until then.

Side note: Grainger definitely has a nicer field than before (even though it's not entirely completed). Mound looked a lot higher than the regulation of 10 inches but it will wear down somewhat as it is still relatively new. Pitchers in the mean time will definately need to bend their backs in order not to throw belt high strikes. Orientation of the field is unique too especially if playing on sunny afternoon days (ie .. bring your shades). Will be better when (or if) they decide to put lights in.

If indeed...the board opted not to put in lights on either of the diamonds as well as not pave the track at the stadium. Leave it to our fine folks in Grainger County. We finally get a new school and instead of finishing it up right they whack some stuff out of it last minute because "there's not going to be enough left in the budget to finish it all." News flash...the price tag was that high because this thing is at least a decade past when it was needed and less than 10 years since all the renovations to all the county schools were done as a "cure-all." Had this been done right the current middle school (old high school) would be a little bit smaller, but still serviceable for a good number of kids to attend grades 7-8 as well as leaving a lot of other things alone at the two schools on the east and west ends of 11W...and saving the county 5-7 million in funds they could've used for this project...that doesn't begin to touch the fact that years ago no one thought to include central heat and air in the schools which was the big issue in the early 90s and cost another big chunk of money.

While I love Grainger County and would rather be there now than here in Cincinnati some of the decisions made in the last 35-50 years have been awfully short-sighted...but I digress.

The Grizzlies open conference play @ Cumberland Gap on Monday. They finished up a tough end of the week with a double header loss to Morristown East and Tennessee High. They lost to Mo West on Wednesday even though they out hit them 12-8 and they lost to East in a slobber knocker 13-12. They start conference play Monday and Tuesday and have what could be a tough matchup @ Seymour later in the week. They have several dangerous hitters in the lineup which could be tough on anyone. If they are able to shore up the defensive mistakes they should push Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Pittman as the season goes on. Good luck @ CG Grizzlies.

Grainger beat Cumberland Gap Tuesday and Wednesday, beat Hancock County Thursday and lost 8-7 in eight innings @ Seymour on Friday night. I think they led in this game 4 or 5 to nothing into the 3rd or 4th inning. Both teams made a few errors that cost them and Grainger left several key runners stranded late in regulation. Next conference games are Monday and Tuesday against Claiborne.

Grainger had to settle for a tie against Gibbs Friday night in the rainy and cold conditions. They were up 5-4 in the top of the inning when the umpire called the game. The score in the last inning was 4-4, thus the tie. They play Union County MON and TUES. I saw where UC split with Gatlinburg Pittman earlier. Will this be a tough contest for Grainger? Is UC better than they have been in the past? If so, there could be a logjam near the top. I think Grainger will have a tough time @ UC on Monday, but will pull out a win. They need to get healthy though. They were missing three players most of the game on Friday. Webster pitched two innings and was sent home sick. Ballard was ill and did not play and Chase Atkins was out of the lineup too. Lets hope they are able to get back in the lineup by Monday. Good luck Grizzlies!

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
    • I heard Alabama was at Antioch practice and Colorado has offered QB. Hoping the Bears have a great year.
