Friendship Christian senior post player Lauren Macpherson will sign an NAIA national letter of intent and scholarship papers with Freed Hardeman University September 6.

Macpherson, 6-1, was the top scorer for the Lady Commanders during the 2001-2002 season as a junior and helped her team reach the TSSAA Class A state tournament for the first time.

Freed Hardeman went 24-7 last season and 10-4 in the TranSouth Conference under the direction of veteran coach Dale Neal.

What kind of post player is Macpherson? Is she big enough and strong enough to go up against the big posts in the NAIA conference? I sure hope so, because they'll need some post players. They are limited at the post position at Freed-Hardeman this year. I'm sure Coach Neal is thrilled to get this one and maybe 1 or 2 more in this up and coming class of 2003.

gogold, you asked if she was big enough and strong enough? I believe she is, and with some experience at the college level she will be an asset to the program. If she is still working as hard as she was in years past, her work ethic will pay off. She is a scoring threat inside and out, she can handle the basketball in the backcourt and frontcourt, and she can play perimeter defense better than most girls her size. I think she will need some fine-tuning, but I definately think the Lady Lions have found a hard working player in MacPherson. Good luck, Lauren! ;)

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
