I say the owls win both district games, or they split. The Owls won't be swept again this season.

Those will be huge games! Pitching wise RB w/ Walden & Atkins will be great. Ooltewah also has very good pitching in Garret Baugh who is a junior. I'm sure they have someone else but i couldn't name another pitcher. Juniors Brady Reed and Andrew Mayfield are great hitters and Zarzour is an excellent fielder/player. Good luck 2 both

You have something negative to say about everything, don't you 'owlsuwish22'? Great match-up I predict. If Red Bank's hitting is anywhere close to the successful pitching, I say they take 2 W's this year during the regular season against the Owls; however, I've seen the potential Ooltewah has, and their pitching isn't what most people think. Just a heads up if you haven't been to one of the Owls' preseason games. Ooltewah can also bring the bat against most area teams on a good day. Good luck to both clubs this season.

talked to a couple guys i know on the Ooltewah team, Ooltewah's preseason ERA was under 1.00. with only one varsity pitcher giving up an earned run. Also, heard Matt Mikel threw a no hitter this preseason, is this true?

After the all day Saturday scrimmage a couple of weeks ago, the Owls finished 4-0 by a total score of 38 - 2. The owls as well as the other teams rotated through all of their pitchers. I would say from what I saw, Garret Baugh is not necessarily their best pitcher. But that was only one outing and I do not know the names of all their pitchers. There was a really good Sophomore pitcher according to the guy sitting next to me.

The new coach has really brought a lot to the table and these guys look totally different from last years group. Much more disciplined and more fire in their bellies.

Yes it is true but it was to East Ridge, who is as about good as CSAS. East Ridge was without their best player Gunner Miller. I heard Garrett Baugh also threw a no hitter as well against Baylor.

well, it doesn't matter the opponent, its still a great accomplishment in my book. and thats great for Baugh. He had a two hitter today as well.

So the season opened at the nest today. The Owls executed very well from what I saw. The final score was 11(Ooltewah) to Ringgold's 1. Baugh struggled a little with location and a few walks, but he threw very well. I've seen the Owls staff in the preseason, and Baugh looks like their ace. I think Ooltewah's pitching staff is underrated by a lot of teams in the area which could possibly give Ooltewah a run for the state tourney. But back to your comment, if Baugh isn't their best then who is? High 80s with great form and technique.. he still has two seasons to peak in his high school pitching career. He has a lot of poise for a junior, as well. Bottom line, the Owls' staff is underrated from my view in the bleachers.

Back to Red Bank, Ooltewah though.

I heard Red Bank won today 14-6? Anyone have any highlights to share?

Here's the thing. We've seen the scenario before when everyone comes out of the gate singing Ooltewah's praises. Of course I'm an Ooltewah fan, and as an alum, they're my team! But, let's see a few weeks of the season. It's so hard to tell anything after pre-season games...even after early season games.

The Red Bank - Ooltewah series will be good, and it'll come down to who shows up on each night. These matchups are where I wish we could District teams play each other 6 or 8 times. 3 to 4 games in a back -to-back series is the best way to determine the better "team." BUT, we don't have that...so it comes down to who shows up on which nights.

Red Bank has the proven pitching, but you can only ride 2 or 3 guys so far. This series will come down to offense. Especially in the first game when Baugh pitches for Ooltewah. Whoever swings it will win. And trust me OwlsuWish, 90 miles an hour just means it goes back out that much faster. At the AAA level, 90 is good, but it doesn't win championships. I'd rather have an average pitching staff and a better than average lineup than a better than average pitching staff and an average lineup...in high school at least.

Who knows...a lot can happen between now and then...I can't wait to get out there and see each team! That's the best level of baseball in this city by far!

So what wins is pitching and defense not just average or hitting. Its so easy to get under ooltewah peoples skin. That's the problem with that place. U all talk a great game but have never let the coaches do their job.guess what its already starting this year obviously.clean it up

Good thing there's a new Head Coach.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
