I guess I'm somewhat confused by the discussion....apparently 6A has 30 really good football teams in the field of 32! Sevier County, Arlington, and certainly Germantown got beat by better football teams! In Arlington's case, maybe (and I say MAYBE) if played again given the same conditions the outcome would be different..perhaps not...but the most impressive win to me IS Independence going to Arlington and knocking them to the mat!!

The confusing part of this discussion to me is that only 2 (TWO) teams in 6A will make it to Cookeville!! If you are not one of the best 2...why does it matter when you find out that you aren't going?? Did anybody believe that White County would represent their half of the bracket in Cookeville?...NO! Same for Sevier County and Arlington....I had no doubt that they would be eliminated prior to the Blue Cross Bowl!...what's the difference?

HOWEVER...Whitehaven is ONE of Tennessee's best teams REGARDLESS of their record (9-2)...and had no business being an 8 seed...same as Germantown with a (9-1) record...had no business being a Number 1 seed....question is...how do you combat this.....the answer......you don't! Just win and it will all take care of itself....in the playoffs...you're either championship calibur...or not!

Because of a couple of things. The best two wont make it to cookeville if they are in the same quad or half. They could play in the 2nd round (RHS/Blackman maybe)? Also, it's BIG TIME important for these teams to play playoffs games because it's $$$ put directly back into their programs. People forget about that and want to say "well it doesn't matter, they had to beat them at some time" but there is more to it than that.

a) If you earn a top seed and host, you should get it

:thumb: Senior players and cheerleaders and band members want it to last as long as possible (their mamas and daddies do too)

Randy, got your spreadsheet done? I have done everybody in 6A with 3 or more wins. Here is what I come up with:

1 Maryville (9-1) 1260 (District Champion)

2 Oakland (8-2) 1254

3 Riverdale (8-2) 1234

4 Blackman (9-1) 1194

5 Farragut (8-2) 1141

6 Brentwood (8-2) 1141 (District Champion)

7 Sevier Co (10-0) 1120 (District Champion)

8 McMinn Co (8-2) 1101 (District Champion)

9 Franklin (8-2) 1099

10 Germantown (9-1) 1086 (District Champion)

11 White Station (8-2) 1066 (District Champion)

12 Arlington (10-0) 1058 (District Champion)

13 Ooltewah (9-1) 1054

14 Mt Juliet (9-1) 1054

15 Bearden (8-2) 1023

16 Wooddale (8-2) 983

17 Whitehaven (8-2) 964

====================================

Bradley Central (5-5) 770

Bradley Central is first team out. Smyrna and Siegel replace Franklin Co and Coffee Co. That may be the only difference with field that made it???

So here is how I have the pods seeded - I am having the lowest seeded team move from one pod to the other if neccessary - and I haven't changed seeds to make sure a team doesn't play a team in their district...

I think your formula is flawed. How can you have Millington below Cordova when Millington blew them out 35-7 on Cordova's home field?

Christian Brothers 7-31 (D2) (8-2) 0 40 16

Cordova 35-7 (6A) (6-4) 106 30 12

Bolton 7-0 (6A) (4-6) 104 20 8

Craigmont 0-7 (5A) (7-3) 0 35 0

Arlington 7-10 (6A) (10-0) 0 50 20

458 305 92 855

Cordova (6-4)

ECS 17-35 (D2) (8-1) 0 40 16

Brighton 34-32 (6A) (8-2) 108 40 16

Desoto Ce. (MS) 10-35 (6A) (3-7) 0 15 6

Craigmont 7-6 (5A) (7-3) 87 35 0

Collierville 35-14 (6A) (3-7) 103 15 6

Millington 7-35 (6A) (5-5) 0 25 10

Arlington 6-22 (6A) (10-0) 0 50 20

Bartlett 14-3 (5A) (4-6) 84 20 0

Raleigh Egypt 35-0 (5A) (1-9) 81 5 0

Bolton 16-13 (6A) (4-6) 104 20 8

567 265 82 914

OK, lets look at the two teams and who they played.

Like opponents: Records, Mill 4-2, Cordova 3-3

Bartlett - Millington 42-7, Cordova 14-3 - advantage Millington

Raleigh Egypt - Mill 50-0, Cordova 35-0 - advantage Millington

Head to Head - Millington 35-7 - advantage Millington

Bolton - Millington 7-0, Cordova 16-13 - advantage Millington

Craigmont - Millington 0-7, Cordova 7-6 - advantage Cordova

Arlington - Millington 7-10, Cordova 6-22 - advantage Millington

Non-conf teams and their records:

Millington (3 Loses and 1 win) :

MUS - 10-0

CBHS - 8-2

Olive Branch - 8-2

Munford - 3-7

Cordova (2 Loses and 2 wins):

ECS - 8-1

Brighton - 8-2

Desoto Central - 3-7

Collierville - 3-7

ECS, Desoto Central, and Collierville aren't even close to MUS, CBHS, and Olive Branch.

Cordova beat Brighton, Munford beat Brighton, Millington beat Munford.

You can't argue with that! It's in black and white.

All these sos formulas and such are subjective and flawed. What did teams do against like opponents and head to head. Thats the true measure!

I agree there is no magic panacea out there - but one of the keys is - to quote Al Davis "Just Win Baby!"

Millington won 5 games

a 5A (4-6) Bartlett

a 5A (3-7) Munford

a 5A (1-9) Raleigh Egypt

a 6A (6-4) Cordova

a 6A (4-6) Bolton

so there only win against a winning team was Cordova

Cordova won 6 games

they beat a 6A (8-2) Brighton (a Brighton team that went 0-1 against 6A for the season, but that is a story for another day)

a 5A (7-3) Craigmont

a 6A (3-7) Collierville

a 5A (4-6) Bartlett

a 5A (1-9) Raleigh Egypt

a 6A (4-6) Bolton

so remove the common ones and what looks better?

a 5A (3-7) Munford

a 6A (6-4) Cordova

or

a 6A (8-2) Brighton

a 5A (7-3) Craigmont

a 6A (3-7) Collierville

I think the difference would be beating a (8-2) Brighton. If Millington also beats Craigmont are we having this conversation? Nope they go ahead 942 to 914 with that win so as identical (6-4) teams they would come out ahead.

RandyMC....i have enjoyed your posts all year long and was intrigued as most by the uncertainty of the playoff brackets! However, are you saying that ONLY those that got bounced are the schools needing the revenue? Are these the only teams that travel well..thus the TSSAA needed them to stay alive longer? I don't understand your point of view on this.

Secondly, the best 2 teams have hardly EVER been in the championship game...not at Vandy, not at MTSU, and certainly won't be the case at Tech. I think it shows the pairity of some unbelievably talented programs all across the Volunteer State!

Not to be arguementative...i would just like to hear a clearer point of view!
