I usually get to see LCHS play a few times by now, but because of work I have been MIA. I hear that Coach Helton really has a good team this year and has become the front runner in 12 AA with the decline of Marshall County. Can someone tell me if they are as good as folks are saying? Are they good enough to even begin discussions of a trip to Murfreesboro? Thanks. Hoping to see a game soon. Please tell my boss to let me off early just one night!

Just show up for a 5:30 tipoff vs undefeated Blackman on Monday night at FRA in FRA's Christmas Classic- should be a great game!

Win or lose LC will play on Monday,Tues and Wed at FRA.

Lewis County is about as good this year as they were a year ago. Their record this season has benefitted from the fact that District 12AA is terrible this year (in fact, the entire Region 6AA is not exactly impressive) and that outside of Hickman County, no one will give them a good district game. They have a solid point guard in Hinson, a real strong freshman post in Trull (if there is a difference from last year to this year, it is her), and a go-to player in Crowell. None of the other teams in their district have those three things (Hickman County appears to have everything but a standout go-to type player). Lewis County has good supporting players around those three and some talent off the bench. They have also benefitted early on from playing some of their stronger nondistrict games on their schedule at home (i.e. Wayne County and Perry County). I don't foresee them beating either of those two teams on the road. This Christmas Tournament at FRA, which I am planning on going up and watching some of tomorrow, should tell the tale on them. The teams in this tournament, like Blackman, Clarkrange, and Moore County, are a far cry from the East Hickman's, Spring Hill's, and Giles County's, ect., found in District 12AA.

As far as postseason goes, the only real threats to them in Region 6AA are Hickman County, Creek Wood (which they beat by six already), Harpeth, and possibly Waverly. So, they have a real good shot of at least getting to Sub-State (probably the best shot they've had in a while), but once they get there, they'll have to beat someone like CPA, Sycamore, East Literature, or Macon County, to get to Murfreesboro, and I don't know if they have enough firepower to take down any of those four.

I think that they have a great chance of going deep into the playoffs. They have an excellent inside-outside game and play solid team defense. As good as they have played I still don’t believe they have put it all together yet. With that being said I do believe that they will continue to take shape as a team and get better and better as the year progresses. You could see a difference early in the year with the Smyrna game and with the Blackman game as well. If they can get use to the speed of the game when playing with the better teams I think they will do well in the playoffs.

  • 2 weeks later...

You say 12AA is terrible this year just wondering if that is cause Marshall isn't on top because i don't know about the rest of teams in this district but Lewis lost 3 seniors last year and we have 2 seniors,2 juniors and a freshman starting this year. This group of girls has always been the underdogs because they don't have alot of size but they alot of heart. Don't count any of the teams out no matter how you finish the season(besides hosting 1st game) when tournament starts its a new season.

    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
    • I think they have they coach they want close to being done. I guess we will all see how this plays out. I hope the hire a good one. There are some players in the box for the next coach to work with.
    • Going to grundle Troy Fleming?
