Harris Walker

Typical Chattanooga player. I coached em. I know. Good kids but they always seem to UNDERACHIEVE. Just look at Lightfoot and C.J. Black. I coached against Harris and admired his skills. I hope he gets back in basketball.

What does that mean? If your definition of "underachieve" is "not live up to the hype," you may be right. Please note however, that the two men you mentioned both completed their college eligibility -- C.J. as the all-time blocked shots leader at UT, if my memory serves me correct.

Would you say Goose Givens of Kentucky (1978, I believe) was an underachiever? He scored 42 (or whatever) in the NCAA title game and then disappeared. Should he be castigated for not being a great pro? I don't think so.

The fact is that every area of the state (probably the country) has a number of players that don't quite live up to their media-based hype. Orlando Lightfoot and C. J. Black did much better than many multi-talented players who never make it out of their middle school, high school or playground league.

You are probably much more informed about Harris Walker and his situation than am I. If so, please make clear statements about his situation. Don't paint with such a broad brush. By your definition, only those who make it to the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts would be considered "achievers."

I would doubt if Walker winds up playing D-1 ball ever again. He may resurface at a D-II or NAIA, which may happen. I think he would have to sit out another year if he went to another D-1, but I'm not sure....

I don't know about Chatt players consistently underacheiving, but if they do, then CJ Black is a terrible example to support that opinion. Black started in the SEC!!! Who are some big time Chatt players who never made it anywhere???

I've never known any big time Chatt players, so the "underachieving" part I'm unclear about because they just dont make it out of that area..Chatt does have good athletes but I dont think they have big time players like Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville. Clarksville and Jackson have more players come out of their cities than Chattanooga..at least more than you hear about.

I had heard that he was headed to Georgetown College (KY). The perreinial NAIA I powerhouse. Not definite it's true.....I haven't looked on GC's web page lately, but, it is what I'v eheard through the grapevine. Actually, also heard Teddy Dupay might play there a year.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
