  1. Kossuth is a joke...not much of a decision there.
  2. any head coach in this kind of situation should be allowed to bring in their own people. having someone on staff that feels they should have had the job is chaos waiting to happen...maybe this would have been different but it has been my experience that it very rarely works...too much animosity.
  3. King and Brentwood were perfect for each other although he seems to have more of an urban school type persona...reminds me a great deal of Jimmy Adams...still I don't think anyone could have accomplished the things he did at the school. My understanding he was a great teacher in the classroom as well.
  4. where has this guy coached besides riverdale? i'm honest when i say other than the scandal i never heard of him...didn't even know he was robinson's son in law.
  5. bill robinson...i honestly never heard of the boy until this business with the thrown game. may be a good coach but he is already facing a firestorm of protest. if he wins it may be forgotten...if he loses it will be tough on him...like anyone else.
  6. way too much bad publicity on this coach. a shame because he seems to be solid. i say give the guy another chance.
  7. you are right sir...I sure did...once upon a time. sphs is one of the finest schools around. great kids...great community...great facilities and they love to win...if they open it up they will easily get over 30 applicants...good luck to them...go pirates!
  8. he felt it to be a better move at this stage of his career...
  9. hate to interrupt all this sp "basketball" talk but how is vic doing these days? read on facebook where he was sick. hope he is on the mend. great guy and coach. i agree with the coach stone thing. good fella and he bleeds orange and black. coach phillips did a very commendable job considering he never really had the time for player development. I've been in those spots before. sp is a great place. go pirates!
  10. chief my friend...there are "homers" who are treated like outsiders...and outsiders who are treated like "homers"...all depends on the seat you happen to be sitting in...ha!
  11. the men's and women's jobs are open at alcorn state. they often hire hs coaches who are successful especially if they are from mississippi. may be off base but wouldn't be surprised. he could wind up as a college assistant someplace. good guy who was more than a coach to those kids at mitchell.
  12. Bump them back to AA...that is the weakest link in Memphis basketball.
  13. I don't know anyone who has a "Final 8". KY has a Sweet 16 but they have no classes...and they only take the regional champs.
  14. Didn't King step down a few years ago due to either burnout or health problems? If I remember correctly the program went downhill on a scooter...he came back and revived it.
  15. Got to give your program props PP. King has done a great coaching job this year and in the past. He almost pulled out a win over a team with 2 legit D1 future stars. Brentwood doesn't have anyone going anywhere except to college where they will major in a professional area and become lifelong success. If one of those guys become doctors I want them treating me. King is to Brentwood what Byrd is to Belmont...his kids are battlers who believe in their coach and his system. Nobody could win at Brentwood but Dennis King.
  16. Top 2 teams in each district. Turn it into a 32 team tournament in each class. Then play the 1st 2 region games at the home of the highest seed. Then play a mini state with 4 teams at a neutral site. Take the winner only from each 4 mini sites and they go to the FF. In my mind after the district each game should be sudden death. It is ridiculous that a team with a loss in the region should have a 2nd chance to advance to the final rounds. Only 1 loss allowed and that is in the district finals. Of course you could do it like IN and have a one loss elimination all the way through the state tournament system.
  17. I'm impressed Twan...didn't know you were a basketball guy.
  18. Plenty of props from me. Just wondering...how many Stanton guys did they have starting for them?
  19. I'm afraid the West Tennessee schools won't like that...
  20. How old is Dennis King now? 70? He reminds me of Byrd at Belmont...2 guys if you saw on the street you would never in a million years think they coached basketball but both able to coach the same type kids and do it very well. I hope he wins it...he has worked hard over the years.
  21. That describes Manchester to a tee. If they want someone they are going to get him I don't care if Coach K applies...and it is their right to work it that way if they want. Still a good school and community they have just had some shaky people making decisions in the past.
  22. The logical thing is to get Taylor to take it for couple of years then hand it over to this local when he completes his teacher paperwork. Manchester is a nice place and the school is top notch but if this plays out as you people seem to think it will you aren't going to get anyone with long term future plans to stay to come in here...and you certainly aren't going to get a top notch coach.
  23. it is still the Shelby county schools so technically it is the county championship.
  24. moving to single a was a blessing for mitchell. I have no clue why an "a" team was 3a at one time. phillips is a good coach and runs a good program there is no doubt but I wonder if valentine would have had the same kind of success if he had been able to play on this level.
  25. in all my travels I have never met anyone as loyally devoted to his school and his community any more than coach weaver is. i was glad to have had the opportunity to have met him and worked with him. just pure class.
