Mr. Jalen Steele... and then the talented others.

Without sounding like a homer...When I get the accurate stats, I'll come back and prove why he is the best candidate for Mr. Basketball 2010.

Photoman..I am expecting something articulate out of you when you post back. :thumb:

Sorry for the delay…. But this is the reason why Jalen Steele is my Mr. Basketball.

Jalen Steele 2009-2010 Season (Through 20 Games)

Averages 23.9 points per game

Shooting 55% from the field

86% free throw shooter

Fulton’s leading rebounder; 5.4 RPG

Became Fulton’s all-time leading scorer (2125 career points)

AP #1 Class AA ranking (18-2 record)

There are very few things that Jalen Steele has not accomplished on the basketball court. The Fulton High senior has won MVP awards for the District 3-AA, Region 2-AA, and the Class AA State tournaments. He’s been a four year starter on Fulton teams that have made trips to Murfreesboro three times and have won two state championships. He will leave Fulton High as the school’s leading scorer; the only Falcon to have ever scored over 2000 career points. That’s impressive, considering Fulton boasts two of the most legendary players to have ever played in the Knoxville area; Ron Widby and Bill Justus. Widby and Justus were both named to the University of Tennessee’s All-Time Basketball Team.

Speaking of the SEC, Jalen has already signed scholarship papers to play for the Auburn Tigers. Jalen has proven that the can compete against the big boys. He is one of only a few high school players to play in the Pilot Rocky Top League the last two summers. He averaged 16 points per game in the Rocky Top League this year against current and former college and pro players. Jalen helped lead his team to a league championship, scoring 22 points in the final.

Steele has always demonstrated nerves of steel at crunch time, whether it’s icing the 2008 state championship game against Mitchell away at the free throw line, or nailing the game winning shot against Bolivar in the 2009 state semifinals. Bolivar coach Rick Rudesill complemented Steele after the game, saying Jalen can “can step up and take over — and he did.” Auburn coach Jeff Lebo summed it up best when he said, “Jalen Steele is a kid who is a winner.”

Steele has done it again in 2010. He’s averaged over 23 points per game this year in helping the Falcons to a number one ranking in Class AA. Jalen Steele has accumulated an impressive list of accomplishments at Fulton High School. The only fitting way to finish out his career would be a return trip to Murfreesboro, and a Mr. Basketball award.

Now even though this is not an award given based on the success of a four year career, I think Jalen’s High school story is worth sharing to show his dedication to his game, his perseverance for improvement, and the consistency and durability of an incredible athlete. I feel he has the votes of East Tennessee… I just hope the west and Mid-state will recognize this outsiders accomplishments and give him the vote he has earned. Currently ranked #1 in the state, Jalen is surrounded by lots of speed and talented players, but it will his leadership and game on the court that will hopefully bring home a 3rd gold ball.

Go Falcons!

I think we have the president of the Jalen Steele fan club on here.......LOL

but in all seriousness I have no problem with Jalen Steele winning the AA Mr Basketball award. I believe he will win it and he will be more than deserving of the award. I don't think he is the best player in AA but I do think he is in the top 3.

    • The people need our help!
    • Lol when was last time they won region or got past the 3 rd round.
    • Gravedigger gotta finish filling the hole before hitting 40 East. May need a new Yellow Shirt play signaler on the Stones. And apparently a new strength coach now. Cicadas must've got shaken out of the bushes in Donelson. Hopefully the mower man sticks around to keep DG field looking pristine. Maybe new OC can call in a favor to his PGA friends that knows a thing or two about being green during the season. The heat is on soon. Bring in the 2 way freak Iceman and cool things off. He knows a thing or 2 about wildcats. Gotta take our talents South soon for Nationals. Don't step on my blue suede shoes.
