The ballot is now in my hands. Positive feedback is needed as to who you think the nominees should be. Negative comments will not help:

The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee will be presented to the top girls and boys in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association at the state basketball championships in March.

This group is to include three finalists for Miss Basketball and three for Mr. Basketball in each classification. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. and Miss Basketball trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

The awards will be presented for each classification prior to the championship game awards presentation for each class, respectively. The presentation of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards for Division II will be given on Saturday, March 6 at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville.

The presentation of the Miss Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 13 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

The presentation of the Mr. Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 20 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Any player at any of our member schools is eligible to receive votes, and I would encourage you to take a moment and give careful consideration to any player with whom you are familiar and who you think deserving of the Mr. or Miss Basketball Award.

These votes are a nominating process only. A selection committee that will include representatives from each area of the state will meet to vote on the finalists and winner of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Award for each classification. You may submit the names of up to three players in each classification for the awards. It is not necessary to vote for three players in each category, but that is your option. And, please, consider the statewide aspect of this voting process.

In order for your ballot to be counted in the selection process, it must be received in our office via mail or fax (615-889-0544) no later than noon on FEBRUARY 8. Please respond today.

Here are the best of the players I've seen this year. I haven't seen anyone from the West. And yes, I am homer for one.

Clay, GPS - soph point guard. Will win one before she graduates. Probably the most natural ballplayer of the bunch.

Wyatt, FRA - only a freshman but plays beyond her years. Will get better and will contend each year.

Carpenter, Ensworth - very good player but, like Baechle, teams can key on her. She's second in DII-AA in ppg at 14.5.

Baechle, JPII - all state last year. Leads DIIAA in ppg with 16.5. Had been around 20 ppg all year but is still recovering from an ankle sprain. Has had best games against best opponents.

Really no clear cut favorites as in the past unless someone from Memphis is lights out. Just my thoughts.

My thoughts:

Avant (Lausanne) - Even though she's a great player, I'm not sure how she could be considered this year (injuries).

Carpenter (Ensworth) - Probably the favorite because of where she plays.

Wyatt (FRA) - If you look at the stats, she should at least be a finalist.

Eakes (Ezell-Harding) - Again, look at the stats...

Black (Harding Academy) - Finalist from last year, probably means she's in.

Baechle (JPII) - Good solid player.

Paige Baechle scored 40 points last night. She should be given serious consideration for this award :popcorneater:

It was 40 pts on 18-20 from the floor and 4-6 from the line. She came out of the game with 5 minutes left in the game. Also 11 rebounds, 7 steals. BGA isn't good but she played against a solid 6-3 post in Ramer. Earlier in the year she dominated 6-5 Myers from Lavergne (28pts) in a 4 pt loss. Also hit Sycamore with 25 in a 1 pt road loss. Missing time with an ankle and sitting half the game 6 times against bad teams may keep her from getting the consideration she deserves. We should see the Memphis players in the tournament so I'll have a better comparason. Good luck to all.

    • Jason Lambert should be the only choice for the Baseball coaching position.
    • From the stats I found online it looks like Gabe Eddington- .484, 44 total hits, 43 runs scored and 42 stolen bases.Meanwhile, on the mound, the Austin Peay commit had a record of 8-2, while compiling 50 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.82. Carson Parrott - 7-0 overall as a starting pitcher with a 1.41 ERA, 95 strikeouts and a save in 53 and 1/3 innings pitched. Parrott hit .392 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs with a .566 OBP and .716 SLG. Jaxon Walker - .454, 53 hits, 38 RBI’s, 9 HRs.   Not saying the other three aren’t deserving but Quillen had better BA than all three and was just as dominate pitching.  Like I said I don’t know how you leave off the 3a Baseball player of the year last year when he put up better numbers.  I know Greeneville’s Coach wasn’t happy about it saying “I don’t give a s*** what anybody else says. That kid is the best player in Tennessee, and everybody else on our team rises to his level“.  I’m sure winning another State Championship as a junior is more important to Carson than the individual award, it’s just a head scratcher to not be nominated
    • What coach in their right mind would want to come here and set theirself on fire to keep her warm.
    • Shoulder not going to the #### show .   Macon will name the score this year.
    • Plenty of time. The former coach was busy with family and disappeared all summer anyway. Obvious choice has the same family issues. First game is in March 2025.
