Go Greene!

You gotta love it when the "Peanut Gallery" shows up to take pot shots. I gave Greeneville their props for winning. On Monday GHS played better and deserved to win the game! No excuses.

We will never know, but I still say that EHS girls beat GHS 8 of 10 times on a truly neutral court. I also find it amusing when someone that likely only saw 3 or 4 of the Lady Cyclones' games concludes "keeping the starters in and pounding regular season opponents, rather than developing depth didn't pay off." The last half of the season, the starters rarely played more than half the game. Realistically, we had 3 players coming off the bench that could help in a game of that magnitude. As for lay-ups and free throws, I was afraid all year that would haunt us at an inopportune time. Unfortunately, it did. One game does not discount the Lady Cyclones as champions. My guess is that both Greene County teams (GHS and SGHS) feel they lost games this year that they shouldn't have. That doesn't mean they aren't champions either. My 2 cents...

"Peanut Gallery?" now that's funny.

Potshots? Thats funny too.

As for starters and depth, that is the coach's perogative as to how long they stay in. But to get on here and say the starters RARELY played more than half a game the second half of the season is flat out wrong.

When you state there were "realistically 3 players coming off the bench that could help" just proves my point that i brought up about depth. The decision to not just beat some of the teams they played, but rather to 'pound" them came back around. I saw more than one time starters coming out late in the game and then the reserves jacking up threes even in the final seconds with the team up by 30 points or more . Some would call it "roundball Karma" when you do that, then can't hit the "easy" ones when it really counted.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not desparaging the girls or the program. When I said the Cyclones were not a "Championship" team I was speaking in terms of the STATE. Elizabethton was CLEARLY the best team in the district, and should be again next year. That point made, the Cyclones put up big numbers in a conference that was weaker than usual.

A fan should BELIEVE in his or her team. Just don't get steamed when you post it in a public forum and someone else says something that you don't agree with.

Best wishes to a speedy recovery to the young lady from Elizabethton and to Chandler Christopher from Greeneville. Hate to see anyone get injured...

As for the last nights game with South Greene and Greeneville. Anyone who watched that game has got to admit that the calling for that game was extremely over the top. It must have been the shorter dark haired refs first time being lead ref. I think he just loved to hear his own whistle blow...... I do not know what the final total foul count was but it was somewhere near 60 fouls. 38 of them were in the first half. He had girls from boths schools on the bench early. The other two refs might have blown their whistles 2 or 3 time each and the rest was one ref. I certainly hope that South Greene nor Greeneville has to be plagued with him calling either of their sub state games.

Go Greene !!!!!

I completely agree that the calls were horrible. I was afraid that both teams would have to finish the game with their second string. The little dork with the dark hair reminded me of Barney Fife, I was wanting to scream "citizens arrest". He called Monday nights game just as bad. With that being said, Congrats to my Lady Rebels and play hard Saturday so we can hopefully see a rematch with Gibson County at state. Also Good luck to Greeneville, wouldn't it be neat to have two teams from Greene at state? Or lets just go one better and say congrats to North Greene and good luck to the Lady Huskies Saturday. Wouldn't it be awesome to have THREE teams from Greene in the 'Boro? :thumb:

Tough loss tonight Lady Devils but Coach sure has to be pleased with how well and quickly they adjusted to being without their starting point guard. By Saturday, they should be feeling much more comfortable with the situation. Keep it up Lady Devils...kinda wanted a little mini road trip anyway...good luck at CAK!

What happened to the starting point guard? She played extremely well, and truth be told, was the difference in the game against EHS.

She appeared to come up holding her hand when the girl from Betsy busted her head open. From what we were told she fractured her hand and was on the bench with wrist in cast last night.

Good luck Chandler. Would like to see all three teams at state.

She broke her hand at the end of the EHS game and is in a cast and out the rest of the year :thumb: If I'm not mistaken, during or just after the collision with your daughter (possibly during the fall), she broke two bones in the top of her left hand...although she continued the last couple of minutes of the game in pain. You're right - she is definitely a playmaker! We missed her last night!

Glad to hear your daughter is okay.

LOL - I would have liked to have pulled an "Earnest T" and thrown a brick at little "Barney" :thumb: He was ridiculous!

And YES it would be awesome to have all three at the 'Boro...GO GREENE!

Sir, I have no issue with someone expressing a different opinion than mine. What I do take issue with is when people make statements as though they are facts when, in fact, they are only conjecture. The fact is, we have a good bunch of underclassmen that can hold their own with most and routinely got playing time during varsity games. These girls will be significant contributors next season, but were not quite ready to compete at the highest level during the tournament despite getting playing time during the season. I'm not sure why you emphasized depth so much relative to the GHS game anyway. EHS played 7-8 people and I doubt GHS played more than that. We didn't lose because of lack of depth. Regardless, the biggest factor in the wide margins of victory during our games this season was the weakness of the district teams as you are well aware. No coach that I know puts in the reserves and instructs them to not try their best. Oh and just so you know, I don't believe in Karma...

By the way, isn't there a softball thread somewhere that you can hijack? If you want to talk about margins of victory and running the score up, I think there might be some examples in your own back yard, i.e. "those that live in glass houses should not throw stones." I seem to recall a district softball game from last season where your team was unmercifully beating the other team (something like 25-0) in the second inning with no end in sight when the opponent walked off the field and forfeited. What should your coach have done in that situation? Should he have opted to put in all the reserves to develop depth? Should he have made the girls bat off-handed or take strikes to effectively give the opponent easy opportunities for outs? I don't know, you be the judge.

Very unfortunate. Seeing kids get injured is the part of athletics that I most hate to see. It's such a let down for them to work so hard and not get to participate because of an injury. Best wishes to a speedy recovery and good luck at CAK. Thanks for the concern for my daughter. She will be fine in a couple of days.

    • They will probably, struggle
    • Dyersburg is going to be good, really good. As mentioned, they have a lot of talent on the way and the trio of Chelby, Joya, and KayKay will only be better with a full season together under their belt. To me, playing in Murfreesboro two consecutive postseasons will only serve to make them more dangerous if/when they stand among the final eight teams this March. Experience, good or bad, always makes you better. And not only do they have experience, they know how to win there. Schedules are coming together for all of the teams and I am excited about what I am seeing on the preliminary drafts on Dyersburg’s schedule. I know I am being a tease, but it’s simply not my place to announce what another school is doing. With that said, I won’t go into specifics. However, I am excited about renewed home and away contracts for the non-district portion of the calendar. I think west Tennessee will have a lot of interest as well.
    • What does everyone have in the final 8? In no particular order. 1. Eagleville 2. Gordonsville 3. Greenback 4. Oakdale 5. South Pitt/ East Robertson-- not sure 6. Richland 7. Halls 8. Union City
    • They struggled to field a team last year. I don’t see them being much better?
