With Beech beating those Chatt area teams like that what does that say about the soccer there? Beech has only 1 senior on the team and a lot of 10th graders. They start players who don't even get in @ TUSC. Franklin and Indy both looked strong over the weekend and Ravenwood is on its usual roll. Brentwood and Hendersonville will both be very good by tourny time.

Beech was missing two starters, one with mono and one playing basketball, but I think Wilson Cen might have been missing a player or two as well. That seems to be part of the sport. You play with who you have. Wilson Cen scored from a corner as time was expiring/(expired). Our timekeeper went crazy with the refs but I never heard the horn.

Fair question on Chattanooga soccer. Top programs after past 5 years have been A/AA and D-2. Look for Notre Dame, Boyd Buchanan, and CCS to emerge as top 10 teams, possibly even top 5 with CAK, possibly Alcoa despite tough tourney at Cleveland, and Kingsbury if they returned most of last year's team (great match with Cleveland at state). Hixson may also emerge as very good team. Baylor is playing very well right now and is well coached (see Cleveland tourney), and McCallie will be very good by the end of the season if key players recover from injury and the team finds its chemistry. Top senior attacking mid is back but not a 100%, still missing very dangerous right striker. They also have a number of talented 9th and 10th graders who will mature. AAA has been competitive but not at the level of Farragut/Bearden or Hendersonville/Ravenwood, as evident by success of A/AA programs against these teams. Lack of excellent club program in Chattanooga greatly affects AAA. They consistently lack the depth of the Knoxville and Nashville schools, for example.

I agree totally. Chattanooga has way too many small private schools to have competitive public schools.

Many of these small schools often will have two or three very talented players that could compete at any level in the state, but do not have the depth surrounding them to be very good. If there were less of these small schools, often with enrollments less than 400 students, then you surely see a rise in competitve A/AA as well as AAA soccer in the area. I believe East Ridge should also be thrown into the above statement simply because we tend to become a stronger team as the season progresses. all in all i can honestly say that i do not see any Chattanooga area teams, making a legitimate run into the AAA post season.

Notre Dame 3

Signal Mountain 0

Some poor officiating by the center ref allowed an obvious take down in the box of Notre Dame's forward in the second half (AR held up flag for what seemed like an eternity until the center finally acknowledged him, discussed it, and then apparently disregarded it), which allowed an escalation of physical play until the fouled forward tangled again with a signal player (not sure if same 'fouler' as before) resulting is some punches being thrown and two red cards....Not condoning the actions of the ND player at all, he did swing, but the ref lost control of the game when he failed to make the foul call and the fuse was lit....

Signal's players appears to be very young...and should develop as a team in the next few years

D

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
