How Good Will Dyer County Be This Year in 3A?

First of all let me say the one thing that is on everyone's mind, the return of Fred Yarbrough is the one thing that is going to hurt Dyer County. His style, or lack of it, is overrated. I believe that if he continues this style of play it will make the team suffer. Secondly, Robert Hubbs is very athletic but may not be ready for 3A ball. John Hudson, although a great shooter, lacks ball handling and needs to drive in the lane more. Cedarius is a great ball handler, but lacks in size.

 

Getting away from single players, the team is very selfish. They lack the unity that many of the teams already have. They need to realize that there is no "I" in TEAM. If these problems are dealt with I believe the team could do very well because they are very talented in spite of their issues.

You're definately going to get an uprising out of the DC faithful on this one.

 

Fred's style of ball is somewhat similiar to JP Prince of Tennessee. It's almost impossible to stop him penetrating to the basket, however his shot from beyond the arch is suspect. Fred is what you call a "slasher". If he's going to play big time ball, he'll have to get a better shot from outside and be able to knock down the outside shots.

 

Robert Hubbs does have the potential to be a big time player by his Senior year. The first time I saw him this past season, I thought he was decent. The more I saw DC play throughout the season, the better I thought Hubbs was. If he muscles up and gets to about 6'6 by his Senior season, you could see him playing in a high major D1 conference.

 

John Hudson has a great outside shot. You claim he needs to drive the lane more, however you had players like CJ, Rex, and Fred that slashed to the basket while Hudson was setting up for an outside shot. No need in having 4 guys slashing to the basket especially with Ced being in the post as well.

 

As for Cedarius "lacking in size", look at CJ. CJ wasn't much bigger than Cedarius is during his Sophomore season. Cedarius's speed, athleticism, and ball handling make up for his size. Cedarius can handle his own. He's a great player.

One thing I will say is that Dyer County has arguably THE best fan base in the state of TN.

I have been to a couple of their games and I swear you would think it was the middle of Indiana on a Friday night.

As a part of the Choctaw Nation myself, I love the team and watching them play each chance I get. However after having the privilege to speak with some of the fans and also some of the team's players, the comments I made reflect not only my feelings but theirs also. I believe that individually these kids excel at the game of basketball they are playing right now no doubt, but looking at the next level its going to be hard for them as a team.

Robert Hubbs was only a FRESHMAN and played great ball against some good players: Joe Jackson & Casey Prather. I agree with GC on this one with size Robert will be high major by his senior year!!!

 

John Hudson's job is to be a shooter and a hustler on defense that's his role! What sense would it make for Ray Allen to be a slasher instead of coming off ball screens and knocking down the 3??? Not much!!!

 

Cedarious's lack of size will only hurt him in one place: the next level!!!

 

I agree with some of the facts about the team... at times they play a little selfish, BUT when they don't play selfish they make those big runs! If they play more team ball I feel sorry for MOST teams in AAA! Dyer County will hold their own just like last season!

 

The only thing I see hurting DC is the lost of Cedric Janes, but Tyler Williams will be a fine replacement for Cedric Janes!

Fred has NO JUMPSHOT whatsoever and he cannot go left to the basket he can only go right. Tyler will be a much less capable version of Cedric under the basket. The true meaning of a fan is being able to see the good and the bad of your team. You can't just say oh we are the best all of the time and nobody can beat us. Every team has its weaknesses and if you are a TRUE FAN you should be able to point them out. I love the Choctaws and I do think that they can do great IF they didn't play selfish basketball. You don't have to know everything about basketball to see that a team is playing selfish you just have to have a pair of eyes. Now on to your statement of a TRUE FAN: I know the weaknesses of DC and it is their selfish play said that last year myself.

 

John Hudson was not the #1 scorer on DC last year!!! I have many people that will agree with me and tell you that Fred was the leading scorer on DC's team last season!!! John is an incredible player and to illustrate your own point that DC was selfish last season... Does John bring the ball up the court?? Well I dont see how Fred was a leading scorer and John got the trophy? Can you explain that? Cant have what both ways? They DO play selfish ball and the reason JOHN was the higher scorer is because he has a higher percentage shot than Fred so in other words John can get the ball less times than Fred and still have more points because it goes in more..obviously you don't know anything about percentages either! I am tired of arguing with you too because you are STUPID!
