In AAA, Soddy-Daisy over Boone. No Beech-Collierville score is up yet. Ravenwood was eliminated by Brighton.

Unicoi knocks off Meigs in the losers' bracket in AA. Meigs had a good team, a really good season but failed to score in 2 state games.

In A, University School-Johnson City and Unaka are out. I wouldn't be surprised to see Trinity make a run to the finals if not win it, out of the losers bracket. I thought Trinity and Grace were 1-2 entering the tournament but I still would never want to see teams ranked, too many variables (schedule difficulty differences, mainly).

west tenn schools are rolling in AA. Camden Westview and Covington all win on day one....

And its good to see...Maybe the folks east of us will realize we can play some ball. Just get tired of hearing bout middle and east Tennessee teams being the best in state without any mention of the West Tennessee teams...Covington and Westview reppin for 13AA "best AA district in state".. Keep it going girls!!!

Agree with Middle Tennessee slant, but not sure where you're coming from with respect to the East? In softball, East Tennessee (unless it's Chattanooga) gets less respect than any other part of the state. Traditionally, some of that is likely earned, but now I think there are quality teams all over. Going into the AA state; I expected Camden, Covington and Unicoi to be among the top. I'd say they all have earned that respect. Unicoi is the only team from the East on that list. That is no disrespect to any other team. Obviously, Westview has a good team as well. Gibbs (from the East) won on day 1. To be honest, that was a surprise to me. Regardless, it looks like that after this morning's games there are 3 teams from the West and 3 teams from the East left in AA. No teams from the mid-state in AA. Good luck to all...

Etownsparky were you more surprised that gibbs won on day one or on your drive back to elizbethton after they ended your season?

Actually, I didn't have the opportunity to go to the sectional game, so no time to contemplate during the drive home. I did see part of the game on video though. Congrats to Gibbs on that win, they deserved it. As I said before, I meant no disrespect to any team. I was only stating an opinion about how I thought the games in Murfreesboro would go. My two cents...

Would anyone who has scores from any of the State games, please post them here. From past experience sometimes T$$AA is a bit slow on posting scores. Any updates during games would be greatly appreciated too.

They've done better this year, in my opinion, but they've posted the Game 8 box score for Covington and Gibbs...2 AA teams...when you click on the link for Game 8 of East Rob. and Grace in Class A (http://tssaa.org/2009Champions/StateSof ... /State.htm). HELLOOO! Somebody needs to call 'bracketbusters' and report it.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
