Now is your one and only chance to convince me, and several other voters who will be reading this, who the Mr. Football Lineman, Back, and Kicker should be:

For the fourth consecutive year, the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards are being underwritten by a generous grant from the Tennessee Titans Foundation. The TSSAA is very appreciative of the generosity of team owner Bud Adams for his financial support of these awards and to the Titans organization for its wide-ranging support of student-athletes across our state.

Thirty-three finalists will again be honored at this year’s awards luncheon. This group is to include three finalists for Mr. Football Lineman of the Year and three finalists for Mr. Football Back of the Year in each classification (Class A, AA, and AAA in Division I and Class A and AA in Division II). There will be three finalists, regardless of classification, for the Mr. Football Kicker of the Year award. They are to be selected via a vote of football coaches and selected members of the media. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. Football trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

These outstanding individuals and their schools are to be recognized along with their parents and coaches at the prestigious Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Luncheon, scheduled Monday, November 29 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Murfreesboro.

Each of the designated media outlets, of which you are one, is asked to submit the name of up to three players in each classification for the Mr. Football Lineman of the Year Award and the Mr. Football Back of the Year Award. You are also asked to submit three players, regardless of classification, for the Mr. Football Kicker of the Year award. It is not necessary to vote for three players in each category, but that is your option. If you feel an individual player is one of the top three players in both categories, then you may list him in both.

In order for your ballot to be counted, it must be received in our office via mail or fax

(1-615-889-0544) no later than MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1.

I must return the ballot by November 1st.

The ballot is turned in so it's too late to recommend...which is fine with me. I don't have a good enough feel for the top players and wouldn't want to go out on a limb.

So, I figured why not highlight a couple of kids and throw their stats out there and the rest of you do the same. Throw out the stats for the best DII-A players you know or from your school and what they've done this year. For SBEC, their top senior has been WR Trey Skinner who is playing football for the first time in 3-4 years. 38 catches for 688 yards and 4 TDs. 114 KO return yards on 5 returns and 2 picks to go with 42 tackles on defense. He'll be playing in the Liberty Bowl all-star classic that invites 80 seniors from the TSSAA schools in the Memphis area.

The top player at SBEC and clearly a guy to put at the top of the Mr. Football watch list for next year is Jr. QB Josh Kimberlin. He's:

thrown for 1,611 yards and 8 TDs

run for 812 yards (6.8 ypc) and 13 TDs

returned 14 KO's for 495 yards and 2 TDs

racked up 96 tackles on defense to go along with 2 picks and 3 fumble recoveries

Linebacker Dustin DeVaughan who is entirely too small to be playing on the o-line, but does it anyway, had 105 tackles and would have to qualify as the team's "fire-up" leader and maybe the strongest player on the team pound for pound...maybe the strongest period.

These guys along with the whole team did a great job pulling a team together that lost a ridiculous number of seniors from last year who contributed most of the stats from last year, got a new coach and completely new offensive and defensive schemes, are playing more people both ways than I can ever remember, and have lost their starting TB who also starts at LB possibly for the season a couple of weeks ago.

Now, brag on your guys...tell your story. I'd love to read them all.
