Rumor has it up our way that the all-state shortstop from Maryville (Blanco) is not eligible to play high school ball. Does anyone know if this is true and why?

I heard the same and it had something to do with her playing in the Under Armour all-star game this past summer. Not sure if it is true though.

I heard it last summer, and it dealt with her playing in the Queen of Diamonds. I hope it's not true. She is a great player and was a great representative for the players in this state in the Under Armor game.

I am pretty sure that TSSAA change that rule last summer.

This rumor does stem from the Under Armour game and in the beginning there were 2 states and softball entities that in there infinite wisdom and moral character deemed any player participating in this event ineligible for high school ball, TSSAA being one. The father of this player went to TSSAA questioning a rule that would not only limit the exposure of player but the recognition that the state would recieve for producing a player capable of participating in such an event limiting the possibility for future players from this state/area to capitalize and possibly be selected in the future. It is my understanding that TSSAA couldn't argue with this logic and lifted the iron thumb not only allowing this player to participate in this event which created many oppertunities with college coaches, but also allowed two baseball players from Farragut to participate in the Under Armour Baseball event. The rest is history, not sure what it did for the baseball players, but this event sealed the deal for Criket signing with the University of Gerogia!!!!

Way to go kid! :thumb:

Criket is eligible this year. The Under Armour game, at first, if she decided to play in it, and she would have, would have compromised her elgibility for the entire junior year at MHS. But, through the help of Coach Quarles, the MHS AD, and the baseball staff at Farragut High School, who ran the appeal proceess and the hearing with the TSSAA, Criket and the baseball players from FHS were able to play in their UA AA games. Thankfully, the ruling has been changed that didnt allow athletes from Tennessee to play in this game. The original ruling stated that since the UA AA game wasn't sanctioned by the TSSAA, that student athletes in Tennessee couldnt participate.

Very glad to hear. She is a fantastic player but an even better person and you should be very proud. It's good to know TSSAA realized they needed to change that rule. Good luck this season.

    • Wow I haven't been keeping up with softball had no idea.Been keeping up with baseball and we are slowly fading there.I will check it out!!Thx
    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
