Alcoa beat Oak Ridge tonight 1-0. Don't know much more than the score.

Big G, it was a great game! Austin Stone scored off a beautiful cross from Mario Orihuela about half way into the 1st half. It looked like slow motion. Austin just seemed to float through the air and pick out where the keeper was not and knocked the ball in. It was really pretty. Alcoa controlled the midfield for the entire 1st half. Oak Ridge only threatened once on a free kick that was well struck, but our keeper (my son) made a nice play to deflect the ball. It was a physical game. Alcoa had three yellow cards.

The second half started with Alcoa stealing the ball and getting a shot on goal. Oak Ridge responded by going into major attack mode, but the Alcoa defense was able to stay compact and then funnel the Oak Ridge attacks to the outside. The Alcoa defense is really fast, even without one starter that was out with an upper respiratory infection (about half the team was sick in some form or fashion). At about the 20 minute mark of the second half, the size of the field started to wear down the Alcoa players and untested Freshman had to step up with valuable minutes to rest starters. We also lost one of our attackers with a hip flexor. Oak Ridge has such a nice complex. They did a good job in the second half of switching the ball and making diagonal runs. This resulted a couple of corners but Oak Ridge could not cash them in. We became totally defensive because our players were so tired. We are not used to playing on that size pitch. Oak Ridge had a number of good opportunities off of free kicks, but could not find the back of the net. The young man that took the free kicks for OR has a rocket for a foot. The second half battle for the midfield was a draw. In the last 5 minutes we, Alcoa were able to keep the ball on the OR end of the field and had it there when the whistle blew.

This was a very good game by two very good teams. OR is a classy team and it is always good to play them win or lose. This was a very nice win for Alcoa.

Alcoa 3 Greenville 1

A very well played game. Its started out a bit chippie as both teams were very excited. This is a rematch of Alcoa's 1 - 0 Sub-State win last spring. Alcoa scored its 1st goal when Stone hit a nice shot from the top of the box. Greenville tied the score shortly after with a quick strike down the wing hitting a pretty shot that got past the diving keeper on the far post. Alcoa scored again off a set piece by Burkhalter. Half time score Alcoa 2 Greenville 1.

Alcoa dominated the midfield in the second half and kept the ball on the Greenville side of the field. An own goal was score when Alcoa lofted a shot into the box. The keeper and the defender both went up to cover the Alcoa player for the header and the ball went off the Greenville defender into the goal. The keeper and defender basically knocked each other to the ground.

A nice win for Alcoa. Greenville is a very well coached, physical team. I expect them to be the team to come out of upper East Tennessee. Well played Greenville!

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
