Typical first spring scrimmage for both teams. Very sloppy and the wet field made it even sloppier. Falcons ended up outscoring the Tomcats 3 tds to 1. Falcon offense looked very sloppy due to inexperience and some strong guys up front for the Tomcats. Was a ten play format so it was very controlled as well. 1st series for LC on offense was a struggle to say the least and they did not get to the 50 in 10 plays. Haywoood's 1st series saw them gain some yardage but LC held them at the falcon 40. Second series with Rafael Tyler at QB Falcons scored 2 TDs in 10 plays. 1st TD set up by a Tyler to Bledsoe hookup that covered about 55 yards. Tyler then hooked up with Devon Jones for a TD and it was 1-0 LC. The Falcons had 1 play left of offense after the score and Tyler went 70 yds on an option right for a TD making it 2-0 LC. The tomacts took the ball and put a drive together and scored on their 10th play on a fade route to make it 2-1. Nick Price came back in at QB and led LC to a score by hooking up with Tyler on a 60 yard corner route for a TD making it 3-1 LC. LC defense held Haywood out of the endzone for their last 2 possessions and the falcons mustered nothing in their last possession. Young guys got a series and a half before lightning ended the scrimmage. Overall good work for both teams and gave them things they need to work on. Haywood has some good looking athletes and some solid lineman. Once they get the system down and become comfortable they could be a tough opponent for many a foe.

I like what the Tomcats are doing. Looked a lot different than what people are use to seeing on the football field in Brownsville. They have a young quarterback that will need some time to learn the system inside and out but he still showed promise. Haywood's starting running back, top WR, and starting TE/MLB did not play. Like wardawg said, once Haywood gets everything together, they could be very very tough. Lots of good athletes for the Tomcats and showed a lot of more discipline last night.

    • What has this guy done to you that is so bad? I have spoken to him at one of the games this past year and he was very nice. I am not sure on his ability to coach.
    • I didn't make it up, I was told that by another coach.   I was just passing along what I was told.  Keep your shirt on there tough guy.
    • I see them and Oakdale struggling quite a bit the next few years. I see OS to be the powerhouse of the area for awhile. It all depends on how much Coalfield can recruit.
    • How did the scrimmage with Central go?
    • I’ve said it all year coalfield isn’t the same team as the last couple years. They have 3 really good players and another pitcher that throws low to mid 80s. Other than that, everybody else is average at best. You could make the argument that their lineup was the worst out of the 4 teams in their region tournament. Oakdale is really hot right now and playing well. Greenback was the second best team there. Wartburg was hitting it well but limped into the tournament with their center fielder being hurt and their best pitcher not being able to go on the mound for them was killer.
