Tennessees Middle School's tryouts for the upcoming Volleyball Season usually is the week after Middle School is out for the 2010 school year. For those Middle School players and Coaches, it is the official start of preparing for the 2011 School Year Season. Check with the MSTSSAA Rules for those schools who join the organization for the 2011 season. It spells out dead periods and practice times for the new season.

As with other years, there are some Very large Tournaments throughout the State during the upcoming season. While dates have not been published for the upcoming year, those of note that were had last year were at Karns and Cumberland University in Lebanon, both having a large number of schools attending. There are others in the State that likely were as large as those two. Preseason Tournaments are generally held the first part of August. Clinics are held by Universities and Colleges thru the State as well as some other schools after the dead period in July.

The enrollment in age groups 12 and 13 in summer Volleyball Programs was high this year meaning upcoming play for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with be high again this year with the continued interest in the sport.

Those having an interest should check with your school to see when tryouts are scheduled.

    • What type of injury did Stacey receive
    • OR just played West and I was surprised they were the 4th seed in the region. Darn good team, They have everything, pure shooting, long, tall, athletic. Nothing not to like. It's the best combo length and athleticism I've seen since the mid 90s, Columbia Central had a team like that in the state.
    • I like to call people out on BS too. In this case if you don’t have evidence that Upperman tanked what you are saying is BS. See I like to stir the pot as much as anyone but I believe you leave kids alone. If you have evidence like who said what, when, where etc. name it. If not you are questioning the character of a group of kids. Please stop. If you got beef with adults talk about them. But saying a particular team tanked is talking about the kids that make up said team.
    • Even though OR won by 15, that was a fantastic HS BB game. West is darn good. I'm not sure how we won by 15 looking back.     We got way ahead in the first quarter, West just wasn't ready and then they went into the zone press the rest of the game and they got it down to 6. Then OR punched back and spread it back out.    It was like a good heavy weight boxing match, both teams landed haymakers, OR landed 1 more.    West is probably the 2cd best team that played OR, Fulton was the best.
    • Unfortunately we may never see the great players finish hs in state anymore. Many players and parents think it is better to leave and go to ‘prep schools’ to expand their game. Makes me wonder how we produced player like Penny Hardaway, Shawn Marion, Kirk Haston, Thaddeus Young, Trenton Hassell, etc with such poor coaching and competition. Lol it’s a different world!
