Hughes, Dean join Lee Lady Flames softball

With the Christmas holiday and the 2012 season fast approaching, Coach Emily Russell is continuing her recruiting work at the high school level, adding Angie Hughes and Lexie Dean for the 2012-13 school year.

 

Lexie Dean, of Grace Academy in Chattanooga, will bring her versatile play to the Lady Flames in 2012-13. Dean has enjoyed an outstanding three-year career for Coach Tina Walker at Grace, earning All-District honors all three seasons.

 

Boasting a career batting average of .512, Dean was named Best Hitter for her high school squad the past three seasons. She was also named TWSA All-State and Best of Preps in both her sophomore and junior seasons. 2011 was also highlighted by a 26-game hitting streak.

Softball program adds standouts from Tennessee, Virginia and California

COOKEVILLE Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team has been bolstered for the coming years with the recent signing of three high school standouts hailing from Tennessee, California and Virginia.

 

Veteran Golden Eagle coach Tory Acheson announced the signing of Madison Taylor, an outfielder from Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Daniele McHugh, a utility player from Alexandria, Va., and Olivia Bennett, an infielder/outfielder from Redlands, Calif.

 

Madison Taylor is the daughter of Kevin and Melissa Taylor currently in her senior year at Mt. Juliet High School. She will play this season for coach Brad Rowlett after three seasons for the Lady Bears under coach Casey Pedigo. An Honors student, Taylor was the team’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and the Offensive Player of the Year in 2011. She was an All-District 9AAA selection and earned district all-tournament honors while leading her team to the district, regional and sectional championships last spring and a spot in the TSSAA state tournament.

Stephanie Bridges signs to play volleyball and softball at TWC

Halls High School volleyball/softball standout Stephanie Bridges has signed a letter of intent to continue her career in both sports at Tennessee Wesleyan College. Bridges garnered many honors during her career at Halls HS. These honors include being a four-year starter and team captain in both volleyball and softball. She was also named to the All-District team in volleyball all 4 years and All-District in softball for 3 years. Stephanie hopes to go in and contribute as a freshman in both sports next season at Tennessee Wesleyan. Stephanie is the daughter of Phil and Bonnie Bridges and is planning on majoring in Biology.

Stevens Strengthens Lee 2013 Softball Class

Coach Emily Russell continues to build a solid recruiting class for 2013, recently adding Lizzie Stevens of Mt. Juliet, Tenn. Stevens is currently a senior at Davidson Academy in Nashville, Tenn.

 

Stevens, daughter of Chuck and Lee alum Cathy Stevens, is currently playing shortstop at Davidson, but may also get consideration at second base or in the outfield.

 

“We are pleased to announce the signing of Lizzie Stevens,†said Russell. “She has been on our radar since she was in the 8th grade. Her mom, Cathy Howard Stevens, is a Lee graduate and played basketball for (Lee Hall of Fame) Coach (Jack) Souther during her senior year.â€

LMU Softball Making Noise On The Recruiting Trail

HARROGATE, TN -- On Monday afternoon, the Lincoln Memorial University softball team announced the signing of three players, one for the upcoming season and two early signees for 2013 season.

 

Kelly Dreier, a product of Powell High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, will be joining the Lady Railsplitters for the upcoming season. Dreier will be expected to contribute immediately in the middle infield. Dreier brings an outstanding defensive presence to Lincoln Memorial softball team that will benefit the Lady Railsplitters in this 2012 season.

 

Samantha Smith will also be joining the Lady Railsplitters for the 2013 season. Smith will be joining LMU following a terrific career at Gibbs High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. In her first three seasons, Smith led Gibbs to three state tournaments as well as district and regional championships. She brings a deep playing resume to Lincoln Memorial as she has played for the Knoxville Thunder, Blaze, and Fury. Smith brings an excellent academic reputation to the Lady Railsplitters as she is carrying a 4.0 GPA and stands in the top ten of her class.

Softball: MMC Inks GCHS Middle Infielder Morgan May

Martin Methodist softball has signed Giles County High School senior Morgan May for the 2013 season. May, who started at shortstop for the Bobcats since her freshman year, will finish a decorated high school career in 2012, and continue her softball career as a RedHawk.

 

The senior helped lead GCHS to a District Championship in 2010, earning All-District honors. She was a USFA World Series Champion as a member of Southern Shock Softball, and has also helped her team to four other top three finishes in World Series competition. May represented Tennessee in Regional Little League Championships in 2009 and 2011 as pitcher, shortstop and center fielder, and is currently a member of the North Alabama Kraze based out of Florence, Alabama.

Waverly High School Senior Inks with Bethel Softball

 

The Bethel University Lady Wildcats added more depth to their 2012 softball class with the signing of Meagan Breeden. Meagan is from New Johnsonville, TN and is the daughter of Kelly and Justin Nichols and Candy and James Breeden. Meagan is a catcher and first baseman for Waverly Central High School. She has won many awards and honors which include: National Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, Academic basketball scholar, and a member of the student council.

 

Lady Cats Ink Munford High School Standout

 

The Bethel University Lady Bat Cats added another standout to the 2012 softball roster with the signing of Paige Barnes. Barnes is from Covington, TN and is the daughter of Tony and Penny Barnes. She is a very versatile player at Munford High School playing third base, shortstop, first base, and pitcher. She helped lead her team to their first ever state tournament appearance.

 

Waverly Central 2010 All-State Pitcher & Slugger Signs with Bethel University Softball

 

Waverly Central High School Pitcher and Slugger Elizabeth (Lizzie) Brooks has signed with the Bethel University Softball program. The All-State Pitcher, First Baseman, and Outfielder has a 37-16 record through her junior season at Waverly Central. Her career ERA is 1.49.She also has hit 32 home runs through three years and owns the school career record for round trippers.

 

Houston County Softball Star Signs with Bethel University

 

As Kali Gunson began to address friends, family and teammates after signing a letter of intent to attend Bethel University to play softball, the significance of the moment sunk in.

"I realized this was opening an new world to me that I've been working toward," the Houston County High School senior said. "Now it's here. I'm excited to be able to see everything and experience college."

Kali is projected to play in the outfield for head coach Larry Geraldi's Lady Wildcats at Bethel's McKenzie campus.

 

Creek Wood Softball Standout Signs with Bethel University

 

Creek Wood High School softball star Summer Winters signed with Bethel University recently. The Shortstop is the daughter of Steve and Rita Winters of White Bluff, Tenn. She will begin her career as a student athlete at Bethel in 2012.She was an all-conference and 2nd Team All-State this past season at Creek Wood.

Lady Lions continue TCA connection with Carpenter signing

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball continued its connection to state softball powerhouse Trinity Christian Academy with the recent signing of Allie Carpenter of Decaturville, Tenn.

 

Carpenter is presently a senior at TCA in Jackson, Tenn., where she has been a two-year starter in the outfield. As a junior last season, she hit .432 with 36 RBI and 10 stolen bases. She also helped lead TCA to its fourth state championship as a sophomore.

 

During her career at Trinity Christian, she is hitting .375 with 68 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

 

"Allie brings us great speed in the outfield and at the plate," said FHU head coach Todd Humphry. "She comes from a great program that knows how to win."

 

She will be the fourth player from TCA to play softball at Freed-Hardeman joining Brittany Yates, Natalie Nelson and Shelby Cummings.

 

Allie is the daughter of Chris and Liz Carpenter.
