McMinn Central vs. Walker Valley

McMinn is a good team. Coach showed some class by pulling the press off in the second half and playing subs.. Walker Valley has experienced players on the bench that could have made it closer, but probably still would not win. Freshmen players are going to need a lot of experience to play at this level. Maybe walker valley's coaches will figure it out

How many Jr's and Seniors does Walker Valley have? I was told only 2 jr's was dressed and played and the rest were all 9th and 10th graders cuz the rest are hurt. Central played Central Bball, coach pressed till the end of the 3rd .

Walker Valley is terrible. No wonder Tucker left. Lady Mustangs were slow and not paricularly well coached.

Central took most if not all starters out very early in the 3rd quarter. If Coach Morgan wanted to beat them by 70 he could easily have. Walker Valley had no answers for Central period. And what many seem to forget is Central is also very young with only one senior starter. I look for them to have another very successful year.

Who are the many that seem to forget? I saw Walker in the summer and it was obvious they were going to be... well to be nice for the kids we will say down this year. Central had enough coming back along with at least 2 freshmen that I saw play in camps last year, so everyone who saw them knew they were going to be good. I can't remember the last time I saw them down I guess it was when Meigs had that 7 yr region run back in the 90's, and I'm not sure they were down then. I guess that's why Walkers best player returning or at least one of the 2 best transfered to Bradley, but she's hurt and hasn't played yet. You should be happy about them being young and good, cause we both know Morgan can get the play out of them.

When I made the statement about many forgetting they are a young squad, I wasnt referring to anyone on here. I am very happy they are young and whats even better is they dont play like it. They will have some tough tests this year but there athleticism will hopefully carry them through. Also the future looks bright with some of the younger girls and a very talented freshman who is extremely athletic. Should be another exciting year for MC.

I agree should be another great year for them and thier out of district schedule should help also, can't wait to see the rematch between them and Bradley at the end of the regular season bradley should be at full strength then and central's younger players should have gained alot of experience. Big gym and I hope a packed house. Only thing gonna hurt them is thier district schedule Polk is probably the second best team but thier not that good and thier coach has alot to learn.

Agreed. Lets hope their out of district games get them ready for Bradley. Bradley is just so big and will cause problems for a lot of teams this year. As for MC's district schedule, Meigs may be their best competition, though I dont see any posing much of a problem for Central. As long as they continue to grow as a team, the future looks bright.

Meigs, Sequoyah, and Polk are pretty good teams this year, but still not at the level of McMinn Central.

Saw Sequoyah about a week ago struggle against Tellico. Then surprisingly watched McMinn County beat Meigs. Saw Polk against Central in the jamboree but that jamborees just dont tell you much. Your right though. I just dont see these teams being able to compete against Central for an entire game. Central is young but just too athletic.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
