Solution to the Oak Ridge/AC problem

There has been so much said with one side saying it was the others fault and vice versa. I was sitting at courtside and saw what happened up close. Daniel and Rian came down with a rebound together and Daniel was behind him with his arms around Rian.(he did have ahold of the ball also) They both took a couple steps back and lost their balance and both fell to the floor. Rian actually fell on top of Daniel when they landed and Daniel rolled him off of him when they got to the floor. There was NO SLAM. He actually cushioned his fall. Since Daniel did not let Rian go, it did look VERY bad. Rian jumped up and went after Daniel. Oak Ridge players did grab Rian immediately and take him to the bench. A couple of AC players did jump up on the bench when it started. Coach Wallace screamed at them to "sit down".

The referees were standing right in front of me about ten feet away, after the incident talking over what to do. I was trying to hear or read lips or whatever I could to find out what was going to happen. Suddenly people from the AC side were screaming for security. I do not know what was said up there so I cannot comment on that part. I do know the two women involved (one since we were in high school) and would be floored if the "N" word was used!! Rian did run into the stands and his arms were flying everywhere ( he was trying to throw people off of him. I can't say he was throwing punches, but he he did run into the stands like a madman.

Rian had been involved in some "gamesmanship" with the AC players, especially with Torres. Rian would laugh in his face if he missed a shot or had a turnover. I know this goes on in most games, it turns out Rian lost his cool first. Maybe Daniel should have turned loose of Rian before they fell, I know he was not trying to hurt Rian. I have known Daniel for some years and that is just not him. I do not know Rian as well, but I know several coaches that have coached him in AAU and I really believe this is out of character for him to lose his cool like this.

I have known Aaron since he was a freshman in high school. I have refereed some of his games in high school when he played for his father. I have to say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. His dad was tough on officials also. I heard everything Aaron said to the officials after Rian was ejected. He complained about the ejection every time the play was on his end of the floor. Finally Blake had had enough and "stuck him" so he would sit down and hush. I know the assigner for the officials was there and saw everything that happened.

This was an ugly situation that was bad for both sides. I think it is time to let it die now.

I wish...it will never happen. I feel I must defend the AC fans because I know someone very well who was right there. Rest assured, no racial slurs were uttered by anyone. Since you were there, did you feel like the game was already "out of control"?

"Out of control" no. "Chippy" Yes. Torres pushes Thompson into Little shooting a three but it was correctly called by the officials. It was a hard played game, as most games are in this district. I think the other OR players did a good job of trying to calm Rian. I also think the AC players did a good job of staying out of it. I HATE what happened to Spencer. He is a good kid that just came down on someone's foot. No one fouled him and hurt him. Did Coach Greene draw it up to "rub AC's nose in it" ?YEP!! Sadly Spencer is paying the price now. I would bet you all a Coke everyone involved would like a "do over" on this night.

Can't argue the do-over....would love one :thumb:

Thats how I saw too. Just sucks OR player and his Mother have to lose it and make the team pay. Spencer is a work horse and will be missed terribly.

Sounds like your in the know and have been around for a while, what's up with the refs at the OR/Clinton game? You should watch the replay of that game and tell me if you think they actually created tension. That was a worse game than AC there was no reason for it. I don't know their names bit the ref with a flat top hair cut can't hide his emotions when he's mad and for the last two years I have watched these games, he will get mad, call everything in the world on whatever teams made him mad until he calms down. Then he'll make a few calls the other way to save face, but at the Clinton game, wow, he was outta control. Another ref even had to talk him out of another stupid T he called for no reason. When other refs pull you aside and talk you down, your being too obvious.

We are all human, two out of three of the crew that night, had in their heads to keep this game under control but made it so much more tense by throwing T's around like something was happening but it wasn't.

Well I did not see the Clinton/OR game but I can speak on the AC/ Hardin Valley game. 86 foul shots!!! I would say we were in the same boat with the officials trying to keep the game under control. Tyler Hicks got a technical for getting beat on a cut and grabbed the other kids jersey to help catch up. A technical!!? Really? I have been an official for ten years at one point, so I can see the refs point of view. When they hear about a fight in the previous games they will have a very quick whistle. There are good officials and bad ones. Officials know who they are. We would shy away from working with them. Not pointing fingers, just stating facts.

I have heard Rian is getting 9 games. Four from the state, five from Coach Green. Don't know that for sure, just rumor I have heard.

Rian deserves what he gets. The rest of the team, and league needs to see you can't go to the stands. Even though he's a great kid, there is reason for a severe penalty here.

Does anyone from TSSAA look at the refs? I know it's a tough job and frankly... you couldn't pay me enough :roflol: but the one ref is sooooo obvious. I say this not because he was calling against the wildcats last week, but because I have seen him get angry at other teams and they don't stand a chance after that. I hate to see anybody's team play their hearts out for a pissed ref to pick the winner.

What can I say, it does happen. I saw a ref I used to work with working a game my wife and I were at. The coach was getting in him alittle and I saw him make a bad call right in front of the coach. I looked at my wife and said " He just set the hook". As soon as he put the ball in play, he kind of took his time going by the coach. The coach got Mr. out of his mouth and he was given a technical. My wife turned and looked at me like I was a prophet, and started laughing. I saw a ref come back onto the floor AFTER agame was over to throw a coach out of a game once. I looked at my wife and told her THAT is why I would never work with him.

It is thankless sometimes, but they are some really good ones out there. (Like me of course) So be thankful when you get the good ones. Yes they do watch referees. As a matter of fact, Steve (the assigner, or boss) was at the AC/OR game and saw the whole thing. So, not only did the state get the refs point of view, they got the bosses point of view.

Well wiggle you got the answer. Ryan was jawing like I said, and when your up big you shouldnt be jawing. His coach shouldve shut him up early and it may have not gotten to this. You saw what Laker said about Green also. Cried the whole game about every call. Just like his Dad so.... Now Laker, I am almost sure it wasnt a technical foul on the jersey grab. Point of emphisis was on this the last year and is considered an Intentional or flagrent foul, Im almost sure of that. It may have looked like a tech. foul from the stands tho. Now the refs, I also have reffed in the knox/ridge association. for years. It is absolutely the worst association in the State. The worst run, most buddy buddy, worst mechanics, worst professional associatio. I have ever seen. We used to go to meetings on Sunday and all these guys wanted to do was talk about teeing coaches and players up. I mean I have actually gotten emails from fellow refs to watch out for this or that coach. Thats awful!!! There really bad this year because some of the good ones got fed up and quit or joined the knox/south association. One ref even sent a link for us all to watch a tech. foul he called that ended up on youtube, Thats crazy.

Just get over it, keep your head on right and keep playing. You can't do anything about bad calls, make up for it on the scoreboard. There's been two games since the AC game, one since Clinton and we still won they didn't take them away. Keep moving ahead. Get everyone back and get down to business. Winning!!!

I agree Bounder, just wanted to know if the refs had any type of a review process for their performance.

The wildcats are stacked and will go far this year, need to get Spencer back.
