Elizabethton & Science Hill First Game

Two of Etowns seniors are not on the team this year, Isaacs and Hodge.

My guess is they tired of King Dugger's way of doing things.  Both play other sports and we know that Dugger doesn't like to share athletes.  Both had started at various points in the careers.

Wrong as usual...neither were ever really starters. Isaacs started a game or two last year after an injury to the regular starter but that was short-lived. Hodge was on her way to being a starter last preseason but suffered an unfortunate injury. Hodge came back this season and would have been a big contributor but chose to focus on softball after recently receiving a scholarship offer.

Of course I expected you to take up for your man Dugger, especially since you have a kid on the team.   You can spin it anyway you want Sparky, but the truth about why they aren't playing has a lot to do with who their coach was.

My response was more about calling you out than taking up for anyone.  The thread topic is Science Hill vs Elizabethton game.  Seemingly the only posts you are capable of making on this site are to somehow take shots at Coach Dugger or the Lady Cyclones.

Tuesday night at SH the Lady Cyclones will give the Toppers all they can handle. The Cyclones play as a team and it's a big game for them. This could be a war. Hilltoppers don't respond well when teams get physical. My pick is cyclones 45 SH 43. Hilltoppers lose it at foul line. Should be a great game! Both teams well coached and will be prepared. Hope to be able to travel that far Tuesday to watch.

Sparky, if you took time to read the thread, posters were asking if Eliz was missing anyone in one of their preseason scrimmages.  I simply responded that two of the seniors decided not to play for Dugger this year and they would be missed.  And you of course chose to defend Dugger.

I note you didn't call out the cyclone poster who posted much more inflammatory info.

Truth hurts K.

As for the game, I think Science Hill will win.  EHS has no one who can guard Lyons in the post.

I did read the thread and the response made little sense to me.  Hodge played in the scrimmages, but a couple of girls were gone to compete with the band I believe.  I "didn't call out the cyclone poster" for a few reasons.  First, I didn't have time to respond the last time I logged in. Secondly, I don't recall that poster constantly posting negative comments about the Lady Cyclones.

I know a couple girls personally at church that didn't try out bc they didn't want to play for dugger. Another girl quit bc she was tired of his crap. Parents can defend all they want bit the players opinion on the coach is all that really matters

I'm sure it's true there may be some girls that chose not to try out because they didn't want to play for Coach Dugger.  I understand that perfectly. But, that's not unique to EHS or girls' basketball. Those choices are made all the time at every school and in every sport. Most of the time there is more to the story than what is revealed. In some instances I agree the decision is based entirely on philosophical differences with the coach.  But more often there are underlying contributing factors, i.e. other interests, time commitment, realization there may be limited playing time, etc.  On the flip side, it is also true that some players relish the opportunity to play for specific coaches.

I have not seen either team since last year's state tournament.  Both suffered major losses to graduation.  Science Hill lost Copney, Reid, and Knack.  Elizabethton lost Roberts, DeMoss, Madgett, and DePew.  Both teams return some very good players.  Tartar and Lyons are D 1 talents and Gregory may be also for Science Hill.  The Marosite twins may develop into D 1 players for Elizabethton and several others may play college ball at some level.  Tartar and Lyons create match-up problems inside and outside for Elizabethton.  If they bring their "A" games, the Toppers will win.......65-48.  If not, Betsy may win a close one.  Should be fun to watch and to assess where each team is early.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
