So difficult to predict. FC new to D2 and they've never played each other. FC with back to back titles but down a lot of players due to graduation. Don't count out FC QB AJ Long. FC is 21-1 when he starts and the 1 loss (by 7 points) was because he was taken out due to injury.

In my opinion you put way to much emphasis on Long's contribution to FC's success. FC won its 2011 title before long ever arrived in TN.

In 2012 it's true he's put up big numbers vs some less talented teams, you can't say he really produced in big games. Look at his stats vs Gville, TC, Boyd & adamsville - 2012's "Big" games. Hollis far outshined him in all those gms running wild behind FC's dominant line.

In 2013's big games thus far vs TC (Long mysteriously doesn't even show up on the creek bank), Knox Webb (long again chooses to sit but did make the trip) and DCA where Long played lights out. Meanwhile Hollis played in all those gms and gave it his all despite teams stacking the box to stop him. The games going forward are the ones where Long can show if he's really FCS go to guy or not. It's his sr yr and the playoffs will be what he's remembered by not games vs inferior talent.

Couldn't agree with you more. I was merely pointing out a stat. I followed the team closely (in person) for all of 2011 and between the two titles I think 2011 was a much more magical year. I also know that very few gave FC even a remote chance to repeat due to FC being primarily a defensive team and losing so many to graduation. (remember in the 2011 championship that our passing stats were 0-2 yet we won 34-0). I do think the Long played a huge role in transitioning the team from a defensive team to an offensive team and I also think that had he not been there we would have not made it all the way. Hollis was O-player of the championship and totally deserved it. Don't want to over emphasize Long's contribution but also don't want to under emphasize it either.

Also, while Long is an excellent QB, I don't think another championship is as important to him as some think.  He has his college destination locked in and I believe that is what he is focused on.  I believe we could have beat Webb with him.  When he didn't show for TC I think that threw everyone off and thus the entire team was completely out of sync.  I didn't think we would beat DCA with or without him and that obviously turned in to a shoot out win.  IF we win this one against SG, I believe the next two games will be DCA then Webb for the final and, even though I am a HUGE FC fan, I don't see us getting through DCA a second time then having to beat Webb.  Hopefully I am wrong.

I've seen a few FC games and I'm Sorry but I couldn't agree with you less. Several knowledgable football forecasters thought FC could repeat in 2012. Had long not arrived Swindoll would've returned with a healthy and much stronger arm than he played with in 2011 coming off tommy john surgery. While AJ definitely throws the deep ball better Swindoll was a better short route qb & a better runner as well. Not to mention Swindolls leadership qualities. His teammates loved how he played hurt and was so unselfish & humble. The teams transition to a more offensive team may have reflected a better (or more skilled) group of WR's & RB's and a unit of seasoned linemen who had been there and "done that" the yr before.

sorry but I have to disagree again. Webb is on a different level than anyone else FC has played this season. FC may have beaten then in 2011-2012 but not this yr even with a Manning at qb. As for DCA, remember FC was in position to blow them out in the 1st half up 21-6 and driving when Long threw an int. Then Goodwin made great adjustments and got his team settled. FC put up 52 points vs DCA. BGA wins easily +10 on Friday.

I have to agree on all accounts.

I was a huge Swindoll fan but there is just no comparison between he and Long at QB. Yes-Swindoll beats him in the leadership category but overall passing and strategy, no. After reviewing the 2012 results, I will come over to your side and agree that they most likely would have won with Swindoll and no Long. None of the 14 wins were even close games. They were all complete blow outs.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
