The UT ID camp was a great experience. Coach Penske took the time to speak to the parents and had his players meet with the kids and parents for a Q and A. Some interesting comments were given by the kids.

1- Most were not recruited by UT until their Jr year.

2- Most played multiple sports in HS including basketball and track.

3- all suggested to NOT specialize and get away from soccer to avoid burnout

4- all stressed academics

5- all stressed the importance of nutrition and hydration in HS to prepare them for college.

6- Many said ODP was "political" and had a negative experience.

7- Most suggested ID camps of schools you/the player were interested in to traveling all over to play in tourneys and friendlies.

8- none were walkons and could not recall a walkon making the travel roster the last few years (Coach Penskes tenure).

 

I was very surprised at how small some of the players were. Several were 5'5"ish and below.

1/22/2015 ADDED 2018 verbal commitment for Paige Franks (M - Richmond United) - TENNESSEE

 

....and sometimes Tennessee recruits 8th graders and verbally commit them in the 9the grade....
