Everyone also needs to remember that one team in each of regions 7 and 8 are not playoff eligible for this season. Hillcrest is the ineligible team in this region while Mitchell is the guilty team in the other region. There is a very real possibility that two teams will qualify for the playoffs without winning a game.............pathetic. This would not happen under the Z Plan. It is also wrong that teams out of this region would not have to play outside of Shelby County until the semi finals. There is no way that all of the lemmings who prefer the top four from each district making the playoffs versus the Z Plan can justify the new playoff format when it's very possible that zero win teams will make the show.

Holy crap I didnt know all of this. Thanks for this info Reitz. This would be very bad for the entire 2A playoffs as a whole if it happens. Could you elaborate on why Hillcrest and Mitchell are not playoff eligible?

Huge fight at the end of their regular season game last year.  Both were banned from playoffs for last season and this season.

TSSAA reclassification had a big effect in Memphis, with several schools dropping down for this season. The impact will really be felt in Class 2A, where 10 local teams, spread across two regions, will compete.

Region 7-2A:

Trezevant, which opens ranked ninth in the Dandy Dozen, will still be the team to beat in 7A despite returning just three starters. ... Douglass (1-9 in 2014) should be much improved in Preston Harris’ second season. The Red Devil have a solid quarterback (Monterrius Freeman) and a promising young skill player (sophomore Jerico Lewis) on offense; defensive back Jermarious Harper and lineman Justin McCracken lead the defense.

MLK Prep will be another team on the rise. The Rams, under former University of Memphis linebacker Jesse Allen, have a good skill group with quarterback Elmer Macklin, running back George Mull and H-back Cortarrious Tabb. But as Allen says, “we’ve got to grow up.†... First-year MAHS coach Cedric Miller says the Lions remind him of his early Wooddale teams. “A lot these kids people gave up on, but we have some good players. We just have to breed confidence.†Running back Ladarius Banks, receiver Quinton Johnson, lineman Kentrell Thompson and defensive back Colby Trotter will be keys.

Hillcrest will miss the playoffs this year as part of the punishment stemming from a fight at the end of last year’s Mitchell/Hillcrest game.

Graduation hit Hillcrest hard with seven starters gone on each side of the ball. But coach Julius Jackson will be happy for the return of lineman Cameron Sesley and athlete Are’Kavious Sears, who made the all-metro team as a sophomore in 2014.

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
