This one was hard to rank, honestly.  With only a couple of games played, it makes it tough to judge.

Also, if your team/coach would like to have a vote in this, have your head coach contact Cal Sneller (or myself and I can get you in touch with Coach Sneller).

MJCA is not a top 10 or top 15 team.

USN beat FRA 4-1

Top 4 in Middle TN Div IIA are USN, FRA,DCA and Knox Webb. With the exception of BGA the drop off is large. BGA could get into that mix but I'm not sure what's going on with them? If French is not on the field for BGA they are not as dangerous as they could be. She's a special talent per the trainers and college coaches I know.

USN returned all their top forwards, added a young MF and replaced a good keeper with another Div 1 freshman keeper.

A/AA I believe CPA will be difficult to beat in Mid TN. I was not overly impressed with Heritage and their very direct attack. Kick ball will only get you so far. Their kids played physical and hard but I just can't see them beating CPA. Merrol Hyde appears to be trending down from what you read and hear? I'll see them soon and will give my two cents.

I agree your assessment of Heritage. The attack is almost vertical, and when they do complete an occasional overlay run and cross, it is not executed well.  When they play defensively sound teams, they will have a hard time scoring.

Let me be clear in saying those kids are good soccer players and I wish them well. I'm just not sure how those tactics will work against good teams?

I just looked on eurosport and saw where Lipscomb and MLK play on Thursday. To me, the winner of that is your 10th ranked team in A/AA. Page beat Lipscomb 3-1 tonight and Page is tough. Coach Clapp knows his stuff. Coach Profitt will look to right the ship Thursday with a huge district game that should, most likely, seed MLK and Lipscomb as 1 and 2 heading into the district tournament. Don't totally count out McClain and her Hume-Fogg girls yet, but McClain is definitely going to have to earn her coaching stripes with the talent she has this year. The senior center mid who decided not to play this year and focus on travel is a humongous blow for Hume-Fogg. Big one Thursday. Might have to sit back and enjoy that one.

Absolutely! They are a fantastic mix of talent. I was just agreeing with your assessment about their attack. They will certainly be above the average high school team this year, but you are also right that it will take more than physical / athletic plays to defeat the upper echelon teams in Middle Tennessee.

You know how this place can be sometimes so you have to make sure your position is clear. 😀

Of interest today is the Matchup between BGA and Ezell. BGA seemed to be up and down in their scrimmages and have lost some games to quality opponents. Ezell is historically not a strong program so this should reveal where these teams are.

I know BGAs French is a special talent but she didn't play last year due to injury and they lost some very good HS players. If I had to guess I'd say this is a 5-0, 6-1 game for BGA.

This game does not intrigue me at all. BGA wins convincingly.

CCS got it done tonight over Baylor!  Looks like their ranking is well deserved if not higher. Good job Cal.

It will be interesting to see who wins the MLK vs Lipscomb game.  Winner might deserve a look at the top 10.  Lipscomb is young and you could tell in the game Monday vs Page and in Lipscomb's start to the season.  I won't be surprised to see Lipscomb becoming strong towards the end of the season if they can get all of their players healthy and ready.

Lipscomb is not a considered by some as a strong team this year. They were beaten by Columbia Academy and severely beaten by FRA in the preseason. MLK has had several close games against good competition. MLK thus far has to be a big favorite over Lipscomb.

One mans prediction is MLK 4 Lipscomb 0.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
