Week 6 Series:

Oakland (8-4) vs Blackman (7-5)

Riverdale (4-8) vs Lavergne (0-12)

Smyrna (4-8) vs Stewarts Creek (10-5)

Scenarios:

Siegel's magic number is 2

IF Oakland wins out and IF Siegel loses 2-3 to Smyrna in week 7 Oakland is

district champion, gets the automatic berth to the region and hosts the tournament.

Best Stewarts Creek can finish is 13-5 IF they sweep Smyrna.  Siegel has the tie-breaker

over Stewarts Creek and Oakland.  Stewarts Creek needs to sweep Smyrna and have Smyrna sweep Siegel for Stewarts Creek - and hope Oakland loses 2 games and Blackman loses a game - to host.

But interesting thing is what if Siegel, Stewarts Creek and Oakland finish 13-5?  Siegel has the tie-breakers so they host but automatic berth goes away per district by-laws.  Blackman instead of Oakland can finish 13-5 by winning out....

We have a lot of baseball left....

Thanks again for the daily updates to the standings David.

So Blackman sweeps Oakland and can finish 1st or 2nd with three wins next week. Very possible.

Oakland and Riverdale will play for the likely 4th/5th tournament seeding (home or visitor dugout) (although Oakland can still finish 3rd with a sweep and a Lavergne sweep of Blackman).

Stewarts Creek looks to be 2 or 3 seed. Outstanding season for Coach Mike Bartlett's crew.

Siegel's magic number is still 1 (vs. Blackman). Smyrna is playing tough despite their record.

    • I have no affiliation with Maryville anymore outside of being a 2nd generation graduate from a large family of Rebel alumni. That relationship ended courtesy of the lame duck AD (a Bearden grad I might add) and the HBIC. That said, I could care less if a private school comes through and offers every promising athlete out of that school or any other school better opportunities.
    • A perfect example is for athletes at Clinton High School. I will completely understand, and hopefully everyone should understand why they want to, and as of right now, it looks like that’s going to happen in numbers over the summer.
    • I mean, that’s easy to say when it hasn’t happened to your school that often, if at all, but yeah, I think everybody should be for the student athlete or player. Whatever they think will help them or their athletic career, I feel like they should be able to do that, even if that means transferring schools. Now I don’t really get that when you have almost every offer you could want and then jump ship, but what can I say? I guess money talks.
    • I for one am all for it.
    • Covid killed the city because they chose not to play football in the 2020 season. Therefore, kids weren't able to practice and develop, and continuing to lift weights. Memphis basically had 7/8 graders, skipping a year, then playing 9/10 high school football. Now, there's only one team that has made a "dent" which will be Southwind (made it to the 5A semifinals last year).  If you want to go more suburbs, then it'll be Houston, which won the 6A state title, defeating Oakland Other than that, I agree.
