Rhea Co. @ Soddy

Big rivalry game with a lot on the line as far as the playoffs go. Winner gets a home game, loser goes on the road to either Oak Ridge or Fulton. Soddy has had some great games and some head scratchers this year. Rhea has to get healthy this week and the rest of the season going into the playoffs. We are missing so many starters and key back ups right now and it’s showing. However, we have gained valuable playing time for some of the younger guys. Should be a good game and a hard hitting game too.

Injuries sure seem to be an issue this season. We are also still having way too many penalties and mental mistakes. We allowed a below average 2A Marion to hang around and were just a couple of plays away from giving that one away. We simply can't do that against Soddy. If we don't play a lot better than we did this past Friday, it could get ugly. Folks had unrealistic expectations for this year's team and when they didn't deliver early in the season, everyone stopped coming out to support. I can't ever remember seeing such a small crowd at homecoming. I think all these things together are impacting the players. They know folks are disappointed by the lack of people coming to the games. Fans tend to forget that the boys are disappointed in this season too. This season can still be respectable. We just have to clean up the mistakes get a win over Soddy and hopefully pull off a 1st round playoff win. That would get us to 6-5 in the end and that's not bad. We just don't have the team we did a few years ago and we can't expect to put those kinds of teams together every year. Now, let's all do our part this week to encourage the team and actually show up at the game Friday night.

I think the only chance we have is to have long sustained drives that eat up the clock. We can't get into a shootout with them with the way they can throw the ball and for Gods sake keep their receivers in front of us. I don't like our chances in this one but still say...............GO EAGLES!

Overall records does not impact region standings. Only head to head matters. So in the above scenario Soddy would be a higher seed than Catholic due to Soddy beating Catholic.

You are correct...technically it's most wins....so again....with Catholic and Lenoir City at 5 wins they vault above Soddy

If Soddy wins, they win the region, Rhea to third.

If Rhea wins, Catholic wins the region. Soddy to third.

Yeah that is the two most likely scenarios. If Rhea wins tonight. Then the much less likely scenario is LC beats Catholic in two weeks. Then Rhea wins the region LC finishes 2nd, Soddy 3rd, and Catholic 4th.

If soddy wins and LC beats Catholic. LC wins the region 2nd Soddy, 3rd Catholic and 4th Rhea.

There are scenarios with WV pulling off an unthinkable win or two really shaking things up. I don’t see that happening with WV giving up 40 something points a game

Hats off to Soddy for making plays when they needed to. Those two turnovers and the chop block in the first half sure didn't help us out any. I just have to wonder why after driving the ball down toward the red zone on the last drive did we attempt to throw on 2nd down and take that sack. Then we tried to throw it on third down and got sacked again. The 4th down incomplete pass looked like it was trying to set up a trick play like a hook and lateral or something. At that point we were too far behind the sticks and had to try something. At this point, I'm just glad Blackman opted not to play us. We all know we can't beat Cane Ridge and can't win on the road against Oak Ridge or Fulton. We just don't have that kind of team. We are going to have a 4 win season with one of those being a 2A Marion, a 3A Brainerd, Walker Valley that's going to be 0-10, and Lenoir City. Oh well, there's always next year!

Go Eagles!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
