BooWhoWiseMan
Let me start by saying that I am not a private school guy what so ever. I have no clue how things work in that circle and I have no opinion on any of that. So my question is what in the world has happened to Ensworth. I saw them once this year and they looked uncoached and undisciplined. Is Coach Batton on the hot seat or is he safe? Definitely made some questionable hires imo. PurplePanther
I have no insight into that program. I can tell you that I heard some of the parents talking about change after the Father Ryan game....but that can be said about every team in the state after a loss. Obviously talent level plays into it as well as they are down significantly in my opinion. They have the Ohio St commit, but I don't see anymore past him as far as D1 talent for 2021. The pipeline of talent is also a question as the JV team was hammered this week. 0-4 is tough for a program stepped in a winning tradition. It's Roc's second year. They made the playoffs last year after missing them the previous year I believe. I would think that counts for something, but in competition...what have you done for me lately? Glasshalffull
Ensworth is full of sophomores and freshman.. most Friday nights there will be between 7-9 sophmores on the field at one time. That's both sides of the ball...They lost this past JV game because most of the underclassmen are playing on Friday nights. Just today a Sophomore was offered by Tennessee. As far as upperclassmen talent they have a player or two but nothing like years past. The senior class has been through 3 head coaches in 4 years. That is tough on a kid for sure... All I know is you better get Ensworth this year because 2021-2024 the talent is through the roof. Also, before the last JV game they were undefeated. Their wins were against BA, Lipscomb, and CPA.The only game that was within one score was the BA game. Not to mention the last years Freshman ran the table and dont belive there was a game within 2 scores... Ensworth will be back, mark it down... Blackswan
From afar it appears Ensworth had a tough draw playing CPA in game 1 when CPA had already played (and won) 2 games against strong 6A teams. Not that it may have mattered as CPA looks like a machine this year. Then special teams lapses cost the Tigers against Baylor and arguably MBA. (These lapses seem a recurrent theme over the past few years). D2III looks tougher top to bottom than in the past. Overall high end talent at Ensworth is no doubt down in numbers versus 5 years ago which is why they can’t be expected to absorb the loss of the power 5 caliber players that have transferred out over the past few years like maybe other programs could. It does really seem a numbers game when trying to play up a division. I think it’s that simple. Ensworth roster is 20-35 players fewer (per unapproved website) than every division III opponent and has been for a while. BA obviously pulls it off (playing up) and CPA probably could since neither face the same roster#s issues but the school wide priorities re: athletics at those schools are different vs the avg Tiger family’s objectives when it comes to football and the continuity in their feeder system helps those schools too. I’d seriously doubt that Roc’s in a tough spot at all as prior commenter hit it that young talent appears much higher in numbers at Ensworth than it did a few years ago. I didn't know about the previous JV opponents or scores. Interesting that BA JV beat Father Ryan JV by 14 a few weeks before Father Ryan JV beat Ensworth 52-15. It's proof that things are settled on the field. I did see some talent on the field for Ensworth as #11 is an absolute stud at WR. I can see him getting offers very soon! I hope that Roc gets to stay since I believe he is a quality coach. The win last night should be a relief before the Tigers face BA and McCallie according to the schedule on the TSSAA site. I do believe that they will beat Knoxville Catholic in a close game. Ensworth can still make playoffs with some help.
