A great coach for sure! Crazy parents and an administration that doesn't support it's coaches will destroy a program. GH has a lot of potential but some changes need to be made and it shouldn't have been Abner. She will probably end up in a better spot.

You must be her husband because you’re spouting trash. The parents were not the problem as she is her own worst enemy. The parents didn’t ask her to leave and neither did the GH admin. The county did after a formal investigation of her.

Can't take a little tough love, hit the road! Coach Abner is a great coach with a coaching style that people may not like but it works and it hasn't ever killed anyone!

She’s a bully and treats her players like dogs. the game has passed her by. Ask around and you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone familiar with her that will have anything good to say about her. She’s not a mentor at all

People are soft and parents enable the "you deserve" attitude too much. No one deserves anything you have to earn it. If what Coach did so was so bad, why don't you let us in on it because we have obviously been told two different stories.

Would you want your son’s middle school coach to spit in your son’s face? I bet not… be she did this.

would you want your daughter’s high school coach kicking a ball at her face? Well, she did this too.

the days of Bobby Knight behavior is over

She was a great mentor.. I had her as a teacher and she always pushed me in class and encouraged me in my sport that wasn't even basketball. The only girls that I know of that don't/didn't  like her were the ones who never played.

About the spitting and kicking obviously I don't condone that and wouldn't appreciate anyone doing that to my son or daughter but there is two sides to every story and if it happened as apparent as you are making it sound then it would have been all over the news and this is the first I've heard about....

Regardless of the rumors and people who don't like her you can't deny that she is a good coach, and from my personal experience she was a great mentor and keep in mind I am a guy, I never even played basketball and had no ties to her or any of her family just had her as a PE teacher.

I still stand on the fact that not all but a lot of parents think their kid deserves this or that and their child is a hard worker and blah blah blah but the reality is coaches are spending 20+ hours a week with your child and know a little more then you think.

Regardless, she is no longer your problem so you shouldn't feel the need to get on a forum and talk about how bad she is... Thankfully she is a problem at Westmoreland now, and I am excited to see how big of a "problem" she is! Go Eagles!

I spoke only the truth and I absolutely know the spitting and kicking of the ball incidents happened. I only chose to comment because you and a couple of others were making comments about the admin and the parents being the problem when that’s not the case at all.
Being a tough coach is one thing, but personally degrading players is poor form. She went over the line

Maybe you are right... From what I heard it was really only 2 or 3 parents that were upset and apparently there was enough pull from those parents to have the administration talk with her and she decided she didn't want to coach for someone without a backbone.... Also heard a majority of the girls were looking to leave now that Abner is gone... Either way 3 sides to every story, Person 1's, Person 2's and the truth!

I think you are pretty close to the truth. I think Carl maybe one of those 2 or 3 parents.  I am always suspicious of a profile that creates an account just to criticize a person. Especially when that person is no longer of their concern.

Not a parent, but very familiar with the program and numerous players. I just wanted to set the record straight. I hope things work out for her, but there were numerous things that led to her being asked to leave. Regarding the parents, there  was an issue with one girl’s mother over whether concussion protocol was followed correctly that was heated and led to GH allowing her to transfer to Lebanon. Outside of this, I know of no other confrontations involving Abner and the parents. You can choose to believe what you want, but she’s responsible for the move and not the parents.

I know there was a very heated issue with one girl’s mother over injury protocol. It was bad enough that GH signed a release for her to transfer to Lebanon. Other than that I don’t know of any other parent/coach interactions. I realize you’re fond of coach Abner, but there were some issues going on behind the scenes. Bad enough to part ways with her, but not bad enough to blurt them out in public to try and ruin her career.

What you heard about the girls wanting to transfer now that she’s gone is backwards. They were wanting to leave or simply not play if she came back. It was a toxic situation

    • What you are saying is true about high school athletics being a privilege and not a right, but NO ONE ever knows what will happen if a case goes before a jury.  Again, I have been in a couple of jury rooms and it's always a little crazy.  That is why my prediction is you will see a settlement before the case goes to trial.
    • What rules does everyone not operate by?
    • So you want a have and have not split? Sound like the perfect ramp to elitism. Tell those rural kids that they'll never be able to compete with those urban kids. They're not good enough right? Or we could just do what travel baseball does and have tournaments every weekend and give kids big fake rings for winning a few games. The suburban public schools are typically the ones with more funds. Urban and rural schools have more in common in finances than they do with rural schools. I've taught and coached in all of it. The difference is attitude. But if you're jsut going to say you can't compete because you don't have the money then that's an excuse. Especially in basketball. The balls are the same size, the rims are the same height and size. The ball dribbles the same in some rural gym in mountains as it does in the FedEx forum. Charters come and go like a fart in the wind. They are no real threat to anyone. Magnets could be but rarely do they win either. It just hasn't been seen in Tennessee.
    • That’s a good line. Wins would be Soddy, Howard, and Ooltewah. Maybe East Ham again or Knox Central. Tyner maybe but being that late in the year it’s hard to say. I don’t think we get by Red Bank this year.    Rhea could be anywhere from 2-8 to 6-4.
    • I agree with the Farragut and Bradley claim. Those will both be wins. Bearden like you say is depending on when you get them in comparison to when the wheels fall off.  As far as West goes I’m 50-50. They have been able to reload so far so until they show me they haven’t I can’t count them out.
