Division II Stae Champion

Who do you think will be the 2003 Division II State Champion in Boy's Basketball? Will Father Ryan continue to dominate, or was the loss to Brentwood Academy no fluke? Will Harding Academy become the first West Tennessee team to make the DII final game? Can McCallie overcome their inconsistency and ride Suddath's back all the way? It sure appears that the championship is up for grabs this year, and that any of about 10 teams could win.

Here's my assessment, for what it's worth:

Teams that have any chance (IMHO):

Bishop Byrne

Brentwood Academy

Christian Brothers

ECS

Father Ryan

Harding

Lausanne

McCallie

MUS

Notre Dame

Harding looks to be the best in the West, and McCallie probably the best in the East, although I was shocked by the Baylor loss. The mid-state will be a real dogfight between Father Ryan and Brentwood Academy. My top three right now in terms of who has the talent and balance to win it all would be Harding #1, Father Ryan #2, Brentwood Academy #3.

Your thoughts?

I agree with most all predections accept that i would point out that having only played one district game so far USN lost to brentood academy by less then 5 points i belive. with a heavy district schedual coming up, i would ask for you to keep up with all teams progress instead of just two of the teams. although i also must say that in division 2, middle tennessee, it would be nearly impossible to name a favorite. this is very veyr open.

I agree that the Middle is pretty open, but I have to say I don't see USN being in the hunt. One player can't win it all, and although they may win one or two along the way, I would say 4th place at best.

    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
    • Now that wouldn’t surprise me a bit. That has been going on heavily since the days of Larry Kerr @ AC. One of the major reasons CC has never really had much at all, barring about 2 seasons in football. AC milks it dry.
    • Interesting how quite it is. Rumors are going around that Anderson County is being looked at by TSSAA for recruiting violations with the Campbell County transfers.
    • I heard from a member of the teaching staff that there has been a dispute over use of the game field between football, and girls lacrosse team. Girls had a game and wanted to warm up and football coaches did want to leave. The football coaches came down hard with some bad vulgar language and the girls lacrosse backed down. What a classy act BHS athletics has become.
