region 2 finals

got to give major props to my boy, joe driggers from kingston(roane co.). at 160lbs, joe defeated knox from farragut 6-4 in the semi's and beat thomason from maryville 22-8 in the finals. he also won best wrestler award!! great tournament joe!! hard work really does pay off.

who are the qualifiers from region 2?

joe driggers is a senior from kingston high school that has been wrestling for 5 yrs plus. he has a record of 120+wins and 16 losses. he lost to wipperman in the state quarterfinals in 2002. he took second in the region to bault in 2002. his record this year is 23-3 with losses coming to jones from cleveland, knox from farragut, and the 171 from hixson. his loss to jones was early in the season, not taking anything away from jones. joe dropped to 160 before the christmas break. he lost to knox in a team dual by 1 pt trying a hip-toss with 20 seconds left in the match. he lost his balance and gave up the takedown, losing the match 4-3, after being up 3-2 with seconds remaining in the match. he lost to the hixson 171 a couple of weeks ago at mcminn in overtime. he was bumped up for the competition.

we have kept joe under "wraps", so to speak, because he hasn't wrestled in any big tournaments, and because we like the element of surprise. those that have watched him wrestle, know that he could be a contender at state if he wrestles his match. what's his match? can't tell you that. we'll keep that under "wraps" until the state tourn..

thanks for asking about joe. he's put in alot of hard work and, honestly, he's been overlooked. but, i'll take the blame for that. that was my decision and hopefully it won't hurt him.

robert couldn't wrestle in the region due to medical reasons. he will be greatly missed from this region. fortunantly, he will be back next year. i'm sure the lay off has caused him to be even more hungry than before. get well robert, can't wait to see you next year!!

What does RCPatriot represent? A Red-headed coach? I know you don't mean Roane County coach? Isn't there coach a big guy? I thought ya'll were supposed to have another coach taking over your prgram this year? What happened? L8er!!!

dmx, yes i am a strawberry blonde, and no i'm not that big. i am 5'8", 190lbs and balding on the crown. i have been with the program as a volunteer coach since its inseption 5 years ago. our faculty/sponsor has been gracious enough to let me direct our program without any interference. in all, we have 3 volunteer coaches that help with the program. we all have wrestling backgrounds, either in tenn., georgia, or ohio. oh, before i forget, yes, rc stands for roane county. we are a very young team, but should be more competition in a couple of years. our aau program is our greatest asset. we currently have over 50 kids participating, with approx. 15 of those in the middle school div.. the years ahead look bright for our program and the high school wrestling program. we are currently trying to get the other schools in our county to add wrestling to their athletic programs, but continue to hit road blocks along the way. but, we don't take no for an answer very easily.
