Sholly / Morgan seeding question.

Can anyone explain why Sholly was seeded 3rd instead of Morgan from Cleveland? Sholly didn't place last year and Morgan did. Just curious.

Morgan finished 6th, Sholly holds a 4th place medal. I know that Sholly did not medal last year, however, he did finish 4th and he was region V champion this year. State considers the medal not the year....

 

Strange but true...I am little concerned about the 130 bracket where the top 5 wrestlers from the state are in the bottom half of the bracket....Really messed up.

Coach then explain why Creagan was seeded 2nd and why Jones/Cleveland at 171 was seeded 2nd. Jones was a state champ 2 years ago. I think you'll see 135 redrawn or 140 and 171 redrawn. It has to be the same for all weights.

Coach if you'll read the rule it states that consideration is from the previous year. So year does matter and thats why Creagan and Jones medal from 2 years ago wasn't considered.

I don't know...All I know is that the brackets aren't really working in my favor either. I guess it really doesn't matter, the best wrestlers will rise to the top.

Has the 135 bracket been redrawn since the above posts? The current bracket on the TSSAA site has Morgan #3 seed and Sholly #4 seed, which according to my understanding of the criteria is correct.

They must have just changed them. As of 30min ago they had Sholly 3rd and Morgan 4th...........

Previous year comes first. At 171 Wipperman and Jones were both runner-up last season. Wipperman was at 171 and Jones at 160. After last year's criteria has been applied and the wrestlers placed, then they go back to see if anyone was a state placer in previous years and position them in the bracket, if they are a region champ.

135 has been redone. Looks like the only change is Sholly and Morgan have been switched. Morgan's now #3 and Sholly's #4.

Thanks, I think we've got that figured out now. It was an oversight by the TSSAA. It has been now been corrected. Although.........here's another discussion.....I find it hard to believe that Nathan Jones a former state champion is seeded second at 171. I know the way the criteria is now that it is correct but maybe instead of just looking at the previous years medals you look at all medals from all years with the highest place and weight class taking the higher seed. (ie, Nathan Jones would be the #1 seed due to his 1st place finish 2 years ago). Any thoughts about seeding?
