Tennessee Club teams qualify 10 individuals for NCWA

Tennessee Club teams qualified 10 individuals for club Nationals to be held this weekend and 5 of the 10 are from Tennessee.

 

In order to qualify for nationals, the wrestler must

place in the conference tournament held in Orlando, Florida. Those individuals who placed were are :

 

125- Jon Lamberth (MTSU) from Dickson County

133- Justin Lamberth (MTSU) from Dickson County

141- Michael Kenner (MTSU) assistant coach at Martin Luther King

149- Mike Harvey (MTSU)

174- Ian Whittaker (Vanderbilt)

184- Derek Hopp (Vanderbilt)

197- Ken Hammonds (MTSU) from Hunters Lane High

235- Demetrius Miller (MTSU)

235- Jeff Wakefield (UT-Knoxville) from Father Ryan High

Hwt- David Cooper (UT-Knoxville)

 

Others from Tennessee to qualify were:

 

Ron Vecchione (Apprentice School) from Kenwood High

Jovan Butler (Apprentice School) from Kenwood High

David Ellis (Miami, OH) from Brentwood High

* Danny Micka (Georgia Tech) from Red Bank High and is the current National Club Champion!

 

The qualifiers from Vanderbilt will not be attending the National Tournament for lack of funding and we are still working on transportation to the tournament for lack of funding (please pray that we find a way)... no word from UTK. ~ info forwarded by MTSU Wrestling

David Ellis is in the Quarterfinals at 174 lbs. He won his first two matches by fall. I'm getting my info via cell phone messages from David's dad, so I'm not sure how the other state qualifiers are doing.

Ellis pinned in the quarters and is in the semifinals vs. the defending champ from U. of Delaware.

Ellis finished 4th. Lost 3-2 in the 3rd place match. Don't know about any of the other Tennessee guys.

Ron Vecchione from Kenwood placed 2nd at 149 for the Apprentice

 

Jovon Butler from Kenwood placed 3rd at 165 for the Apprentice.

Wes Johnson from Houston, wrestling for Auburn, was 1 match away from placing at 133 lbs. he placed third in the conference.
